For instance, the five-seater CX-60 is exclusively sold in Europe, Japan, Australia, and select markets, excluding the US. In contrast, the seven-seater CX-80 is offered in the same markets as the CX-60.
The North American market welcomes the seven-seater CX-90, while the CX-70, also available in North America, is configured as a five-seater. During a recent interview, Mazda representatives revealed their initial intention to design the CX-60 and CX-70 with a sportier, coupe-like silhouette. However, market analysis indicated that consumers prioritize cargo space over fashionable designs in an SUV. Thus, the current designs of these two models remain unchanged.
Beyond the stylistic considerations of the CX-60 and CX-70, Mazda’s design team actively discussed the wheelbase length of the CX-70. Ultimately, Mazda North America asserted its influence by advocating for the CX-70 and CX-90 to share the same 3,120 mm wheelbase.
The new Mazda SUV lineup caused particular confusion in Australia, as it is the only major market offering all four models.
