The Vietnamese automotive market is witnessing a surge in demand for imported vehicles. According to a report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), the sales balance after eight months is tilting towards imported cars, with a total of 94,856 units sold.

In October, many imported car models are offering discounts of up to hundreds of millions of VND to compete with domestically assembled cars, while the latter group is benefiting from registration fee support as per the government’s policy.

Honda’s Lineup of Imported Cars

Aside from the locally assembled Honda City, G, and L versions of the Honda CR-V, Honda’s automotive offerings in Vietnam also include imported models such as the Honda BR-V, Honda HR-V, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Honda Civic Type R, and Honda CR-V e:HEV RS.

This month, Honda is offering a 50% discount on registration fees for the Honda HR-V and Honda BR-V. As a result, the small, compact, seven-seater Honda BR-V is now available with discounts of 33-35 million VND, depending on the version, while the Honda HR-V offers equivalent savings of 35-43.5 million VND.

As for the Honda Accord, the D-segment sedan continues to offer a cash discount of 220 million VND in October. This brings the selling price of the Honda Accord to 1,099 billion VND, making it more affordable than the Toyota Camry (1,22-1,49 billion VND), but still more expensive compared to the Kia K5 (859-999 million VND) and Mazda6 (769-899 million VND).

Overall, Honda’s car sales in Vietnam are largely driven by their locally assembled models. Out of a total of 14,047 units sold in the first eight months, the Honda City accounted for 4,481 units, along with 2,281 units of the domestically assembled versions of the Honda CR-V.

The Honda HR-V is currently the second best-selling nameplate for Honda in Vietnam this year, with sales reaching 3,329 units. The Honda HR-V is imported from Thailand and is priced between 699-871 million VND.

Ford’s Pickup Trucks and SUVs

As of the end of August this year, Ford has two models in the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam, including the Ford Ranger pickup truck and the Ford Everest D-segment SUV.

While the majority of Ford Everest models are imported from Thailand, most Ford Ranger variants are locally assembled, with only the Stormtrak and Ranger Raptor versions being imported from Thailand.

This month, Ford is offering a 50% discount on registration fees for the Ford Ranger Stormtrak, equivalent to a savings of 32 million VND. For the Ford Ranger Raptor, a cash discount of 18 million VND is applied, bringing the price of the vehicle to 1,281 billion VND.

The Ford Ranger Raptor comes with a cash discount of 18 million VND.

The Ambiente version of the Ford Everest is offered with a 100% registration fee support, equivalent to a savings of nearly 110 million VND. Customers who choose to purchase the Sport and Titanium versions of this D-segment SUV will receive a cash gift of 22 million VND.

The Ford Explorer is the largest model in Ford’s passenger car lineup in Vietnam, imported from the USA, and sold for 2,099 billion VND. In October, the red/green Ford Explorer comes with a 50% registration fee discount, equivalent to nearly 105 million VND. Ford’s passenger car division recorded sales of 21,214 units in the first eight months in Vietnam. The Ford Ranger is currently the best-selling model, with sales reaching 10,293 units so far this year.

Toyota’s Urban SUV

Last year, the Toyota Corolla Cross went head-to-head with the Hyundai Creta in the urban SUV segment for most of the time, but quickly fell behind when its “little brother,” the Toyota Yaris Cross, entered the Vietnamese market.

Both of these B/B+ sized SUVs are imported by Toyota, with the Corolla Cross originating from Thailand and the Yaris Cross from Indonesia.

In October, Toyota is offering a 50% discount on registration fees for both the Toyota Yaris Cross and the Toyota Corolla Cross. All versions of the Yaris Cross receive this incentive, with equivalent savings of 33-38 million VND, while the Toyota Corolla Cross is only offered this discount on the pure gasoline version, with an equivalent savings of 41 million VND.

After eight months, the Toyota Yaris Cross is the second best-selling model for Toyota in Vietnam, with sales reaching 5,919 units. The Toyota Corolla Cross has sold 3,276 units so far this year, including 148 hybrid versions.

Subaru Forester Imported from Thailand

Starting in 2025, Vietnam will be one of the Southeast Asian markets that will switch to importing the Subaru Forester from Japan. Therefore, the current batch of Subaru Forester vehicles is among the last to be produced at the Thai factory.

This month, Subaru is offering cash discounts to customers purchasing the Forester, with the highest incentive being 230 million VND.

The Subaru Forester will soon be imported from Japan.

Specifically, the 2.0 i-S EyeSight version, originally priced at 1,199 billion VND, is now discounted by 230 million VND, bringing the price down to 969 million VND. The 2.0 i-L EyeSight version of this C-segment SUV receives a discount of 170 million VND, reducing the price from 1,099 billion VND to 929 million VND.

The 2.0 i-L version, initially priced at 969 million VND, is now offered at 869 million VND, equivalent to a discount of 100 million VND, valid until the end of October.

Soon, Subaru will introduce the Subaru Crosstrek, also imported from Japan. All Subaru vehicles sold in Vietnam from next year onwards will be imported from Japan, so a price change for the Forester is expected.

Mitsubishi’s Lineup

Mitsubishi, which doesn’t assemble a wide range of models in Vietnam, continues to offer incentives in the form of registration fee support for various models, including imported ones.

Their newest addition, the Mitsubishi Triton, also comes with a 50% registration fee support for all versions, along with gifts worth 10 million VND and six free oil and oil filter changes. This registration fee support is equivalent to a savings of 20-28 million VND, depending on the version of the Mitsubishi Triton.

The recently launched Mitsubishi Triton already has promotional offers.

The Mitsubishi Attrage, an imported B-segment sedan from Thailand, is offered with a maximum of 100% registration fee support, along with fuel vouchers, a rearview camera, or a shark fin antenna, depending on the version. The total value of incentives for this model in October ranges from 34 million to 48.5 million VND.

The Mitsubishi Xpander AT Premium comes with a 50% registration fee discount, along with fuel vouchers and a 360-degree camera, totaling 73 million VND in savings. The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross has a similar promotion, but the total value is equivalent to 76 million VND.

After eight months, the Mitsubishi Xpander is one of the best-selling models in the Vietnamese market, with sales reaching 10,268 units. It is also Mitsubishi’s best-selling model, accounting for more than 45% of the brand’s total sales this year.

The Mitsubishi Xforce has also been a standout performer for Mitsubishi in Vietnam this year. Despite being launched just a few months ago in March, it has quickly become the best-selling model in its segment.

In October, only the GLX version of the Mitsubishi Xforce does not have any promotions. The Exceed version is offered with a 50% registration fee discount and a fuel voucher, totaling 42 million VND in savings. The Premium version also comes with a 50% registration fee support, equivalent to a savings of 34 million VND. The Mitsubishi Xforce Ultimate, available in single-tone and two-tone color options, is offered with a fuel voucher worth 10 million VND.

The two versions of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport are offered with incentives equivalent to 100% of the registration fee, along with fuel vouchers worth 35 million VND.
