The Billion-Dollar High-Rider Range: Massive Discounts of up to Hundreds of Millions of Dong

The Vietnamese market has a strong preference for high-riding vehicles, including MPVs, SUVs, and pickup trucks. In October, several automakers offered promotions and discounts of up to hundreds of millions of VND on selected raised-chassis models priced under 1 billion VND.

Skoda’s SUV Offerings

Skoda currently offers two SUV models in Vietnam, the Kodiaq and the Karoq, both of which are imported from Europe. This month, the Czech brand is offering a 100% registration fee waiver for both models, along with a 30 million VND discount voucher.

With these promotions, the Skoda Karoq now starts at 855 million VND, a reduction of 144 million VND. The larger Skoda Kodiaq also sees a significant price reduction of 161-166 million VND, with the Ambition and Style variants now priced at 1.023 billion VND and 1.248 billion VND, respectively.

Skoda will be showcasing updated versions of the Kodiaq at the upcoming Vietnam Motor Show, featuring two turbocharged TSI engine options: a 1.4L and a more powerful 2.0L with an additional 10 horsepower. Skoda vehicles are distributed in Vietnam by TC Motor and the brand is in the process of establishing a local assembly plant in Quang Ninh province.

While Skoda had previously announced plans to introduce the Superb and Octavia models in Vietnam, no further updates have been provided.

Ford’s SUV and Pickup Lineup

Ford’s passenger vehicle lineup in Vietnam is predominantly comprised of raised-chassis models, including the locally assembled Ranger pickup and the Territory SUV, alongside the imported Explorer and Everest.

This month, Ford is offering a 50% registration fee waiver on the locally assembled Ranger and Territory, resulting in total savings of up to 100% of the registration fee, ranging from 42.4 million to 91 million VND depending on the model and variant.

The Thai-imported Ranger variants, the Stormtrak and Raptor, also come with incentives, including a 50% registration fee waiver (equivalent to 32 million VND) and a 18 million VND cash gift, respectively. The Ford Everest Ambiente receives a 100% registration fee waiver, translating to a savings of nearly 110 million VND, while the Sport and Titanium variants are offered with a 22 million VND cash discount.

For the Ford Explorer, customers can choose between a 50% registration fee waiver or a 50 million VND cash discount, depending on the exterior color. The highest incentive offered for the imported SUV is nearly 105 million VND.

Ford sold 24,508 passenger vehicles and 3,530 Transit vans in the first nine months of the year. The Ford Ranger leads the brand’s sales with 11,766 units delivered during this period.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the largest model in the brand’s Vietnamese lineup. It is offered in two variants, priced at 1.13 billion VND and 1.365 billion VND, respectively. This month, Mitsubishi is offering incentives equivalent to 100% of the registration fee, along with fuel vouchers worth 30-35 million VND.

The total value of incentives for the Pajero Sport ranges from 143 million to 171.5 million VND, resulting in effective prices of 987 million to 1.194 billion VND for the Thai-imported SUV.

Subaru is offering significant cash incentives on the last batch of Foresters from the Thai plant.

The i-S EyeSight variant sees the highest incentive of 230 million VND, bringing the price down to 969 million VND. The i-L EyeSight and i-L variants are offered with discounts of 170 million and 100 million VND, respectively, resulting in prices of 929 million and 869 million VND.

Subaru’s website teases the upcoming Forester GT Edition, which will likely feature exterior design changes. This variant is expected to be showcased at the brand’s booth at VMS 2024, alongside the Subaru Crosstrek.

VinFast Electric SUVs

Similar to other electric vehicles in the market, VinFast’s electric SUV range benefits from a 100% registration fee waiver until the end of February 2025. Additionally, VinFast is offering cash discounts or a 50% registration fee support for most of its electric SUV lineup in Vietnam, including the VF 5, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9.

The VF 8S Lux and VF 8 Lux Plus variants come with incentives ranging from 243.7 million to 267.6 million VND, depending on the customer’s choice of purchasing or leasing the battery. The VF 9 Plus with a three-zone climate control system and the battery purchase option sees the highest incentive of nearly 483 million VND.
