The Tesla Cybertruck, an all-electric pickup truck, made an appearance in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on the afternoon of December 4, 2024. This is the first sighting of the Cybertruck in the country, which initially arrived in Vietnam back in October.
Although the Tesla Cybertruck spotted in Vietnam bore Laotian license plates, it is known that the owner is a Vietnamese businessman. The vehicle has been attracting a lot of attention wherever it goes due to its unique design, resembling a “mobile steel sheet.”
Up Close with the First Tesla Cybertruck in Vietnam: Weighing Nearly 3 Tons, Packing 845 Horsepower, and Priced at Over 6 Billion VND
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s newest venture into the luxury electric pickup truck market, where it has no direct competitors. Tesla’s decades of experience in electric car manufacturing have allowed Elon Musk, the billionaire founder, to fast-track the production of this innovative vehicle.
The demand for the Tesla Cybertruck is so high that the world’s richest man has had to intervene to prevent buyers from reselling their vehicles at a profit. Despite this, hundreds of Cybertrucks are still seeking new owners, and one such vehicle has been imported to Laos by a garage specializing in supercar repairs. It now bears a lucky Laotian license plate and is awaiting transportation to Vietnam.
In the US market, the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is priced between $60,990 and $99,990 for its three variants. According to the plan, the AWD and Cyberbeast versions will be the first to hit the market. The RWD model will only be available in 2025. The vehicle imported to Vietnam is the Cyberbeast variant, and with Laotian registration, its price could exceed 6 billion VND.
One of the most striking features of this all-electric pickup truck is its stainless steel exterior, which remains unpainted. Elon Musk describes this exterior as an “exoskeleton” that gives the Cybertruck superior torsional rigidity, even surpassing that of the McLaren P1 supercar. It also offers ballistic protection.
Additionally, the Tesla Cybertruck 2024 boasts reinforced glass that can withstand high-speed impacts, such as a baseball traveling at 112 km/h, without shattering. The vehicle’s exterior design is futuristic and angular, and it comes with a spacious 1,828 mm long and 1,219 mm wide cargo bed.
According to Musk, the Cybertruck’s cargo bed does not require a bed liner like traditional pickup trucks. It also features a lockable storage space with a capacity of 1,897 liters. This Tesla newcomer is equipped with all-terrain tires measuring 35 inches (approximately 890 mm) and an adaptive air suspension system that provides a maximum ground clearance of 442 mm.
The interior of the all-electric Tesla Cybertruck showcases a minimalist design, featuring a central 18.5-inch touchscreen, a 9.4-inch rear passenger entertainment screen, and a panoramic glass roof. The top-of-the-line Cyberbeast variant delivers a staggering 845 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 96 km/h in just 2.6 seconds.
It has a top speed of 209 km/h and a range of 515 km. With the addition of supplementary batteries, as seen in the AWD version, the range can be extended to 708 km.
