The Toyota Hilux Champ, known as the Hilux Rangga in Indonesia, is renowned for its customizability, so it’s no surprise that there’s a new stylised variant. But converting it into a seven-seater SUV to accommodate more passengers is certainly a rare feat.
The Toyota Hilux Champ Pickup Truck Transformed into a Unique 7-Seater SUV
This transformation was carried out by an Indonesian company called New Armada. However, the Hilux Rangga SUV will be officially sold by Toyota Astra Motor in the Indonesian market as a complete vehicle.
The first prototype was displayed back in October, but now the company has shared images of the production version on social media, confirming its launch in early 2025.
The front end retains the pickup truck’s design, but everything from the B-pillar back has been restyled. The new rear end reflects a boxier, SUV-like shape. The same goes for the complex rear door and side windows.
At the rear, there’s a large tailgate emblazoned with the Rangga name, and vertically-mounted taillights with a very basic design. The team has added a raised roof section with roof rails, and retained a substantial amount of unpainted plastic cladding on the lower body. Finally, there are black alloy wheels with a six-spoke design.
Inside, the Rangga SUV features two additional rows of seats at the back, in a 2+3+2 configuration. In the prototype, the seats are upholstered in leather-style material and appear to have a reclining function.
The Toyota Hilux Rangga rides on the cheaper variant of the IMV ladder chassis, similar to the regular Hilux and the Fortuner SUV. In Indonesia, it’s available with either a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 137 horsepower or a more powerful 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine generating 148 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
