Tesla: The Automotive Brand with a Sky-High Market Cap of $1.4 Trillion

According to Companies Market Cap, Tesla is currently the world’s largest automotive brand, with a market capitalization of a staggering $1.4 trillion. The company’s stock soared after Donald Trump’s presidential win, as investors believed that the relationship between the White House and CEO Elon Musk would boost the company’s performance. In 2023, Tesla sold over 1.8 million vehicles worldwide.

The largest automotive group from Japan, Toyota, stands at a market cap of $236.57 billion, taking second place. While their market value doesn’t match that of the American electric car maker, Toyota leads in terms of sales, with 11.23 million vehicles sold in 2023.

BYD climbs to the third position with a market cap of approximately $106.98 billion. The company currently dominates the Chinese market for new energy vehicles, selling over 3 million cars in 2023.

In fourth place is Xiaomi, a technology leader but a newcomer to the automotive industry. Xiaomi’s market cap surpassed $101.96 billion in 2024, outperforming many veteran car brands.

The Italian supercar brand Ferrari takes fifth place with a market cap of $78.1 billion. Last year, Ferrari achieved a record sales figure, delivering over 13,000 cars to customers.

Mercedes-Benz, with a market cap of $59.69 billion, sold nearly 2.5 million vehicles in 2023, representing a slight 1.5% growth compared to 2022, despite supply chain constraints.

General Motors (GM), with a market cap of $56.97 billion, ranks seventh. In 2023, the brand sold over 6.18 million vehicles globally.

Porsche, with a market cap of $55.99 billion, is in seventh place. In 2023, Porsche also experienced sales growth, delivering over 320,000 cars to customers.

BMW, the ninth-largest automotive brand globally, has a market cap of $50.1 billion in 2024. Last year, the Bavarian company sold over 2.55 million vehicles worldwide, leading the luxury car segment.

Volkswagen concludes the list with a market cap of $47.01 billion. In 2023, more than 9.23 million Volkswagen-branded vehicles were sold. However, the German company faced challenges this year, including the closure of multiple factories in China and Belgium, resulting in unemployment for over 9,000 workers.
