In a media address following the launch of the limited-edition ET9 First Edition, with only 999 units produced for the domestic market, Nio CEO William Li shared exciting news. He revealed that they had sold out of the ET9 First Edition within a few hours of its debut. This top-of-the-line sedan is priced at 818,000 Chinese yuan (approximately $112,000), equivalent to 2.68 billion VND in China, placing it in the same league as electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz and other renowned competitors.

The first edition boasts enhanced interior materials and exclusive badges compared to the standard ET9. Deliveries are slated to commence in March 2025. Li expressed his aspiration to sell 1,000 units of the ET9 each month, a sentiment echoed by Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng, who attended Nio Day 2024 and wished Li smooth sales of 5,000 units.

The ET9 was unveiled on December 21 in Guangzhou. The standard version, equipped with a 100 kWh NMC battery from CATL, starts at 788,000 Chinese yuan (around $108,000), slightly lower than the previously announced price of 800,000 yuan from last year.

Like all Nio vehicles, the ET9 offers a battery swapping option. For 660,000 Chinese yuan (about $90,450), customers can purchase the car without a battery and subscribe to the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) offering at 1,128 yuan (approximately $155) per month. This allows for convenient battery swaps at any of Nio’s 2,850 exchange stations in China or 50 stations in Europe.

Built on the new NT 3.0 platform with a 900 V architecture, the ET9 promises rapid charging capabilities. The 100 kWh battery delivers a range of 650 km under CLTC conditions, with a power consumption of 16.2 kWh/100 km. While Nio also introduced a 120 kWh battery, details about its availability at launch were scarce, suggesting it may become an option at exchange stations at a later date.

The flagship AWD model boasts a combined output of 520 kW (697 hp) and 700 Nm of torque from its dual-motor setup. The rear axle features a 925 V, W-shaped permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum output of 340 kW, while the front axle houses an 180 kW asynchronous induction motor. This configuration propels the ET9 from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 4.3 seconds.

During the launch event, Nio showcased several advanced technologies integrated into the ET9, including the Skyride active suspension system, highlighted in a champagne test with former Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess, and a flat tire test demonstrating the vehicle’s stability, personally conducted by William Li at a speed of 160 km/h.
