Honda Vietnam has issued a recall for a total of 11,005 vehicles in the country due to potential steering rack issues. The affected models include 7,104 units of the CR-V, comprising both locally assembled and Thai-imported vehicles manufactured between September 2023 and September 2024. Additionally, 3,870 units of the Civic, imported from Thailand and produced between November 2021 and November 2023, and 31 units of the Civic Type R, manufactured in Japan from January 2023 to July 2023, are also subject to this recall.

While Honda has not provided specific details, the recall is related to complaints of abnormal noises and a vibrating sensation when steering. The automaker has assured that no accidents related to this issue have been reported in Vietnam.

Owners of the affected vehicles can bring their cars to authorized dealers nationwide for inspection and repair, if necessary. The time required for repairs varies from 0.5 to 4 hours per vehicle.

In Vietnam, the Honda CR-V is offered with two engine options: gasoline and hybrid. Prices range from VND 1,029 billion to VND 1,259 billion. In its latest sales report, the compact SUV recorded a sales figure of 919 units, marking a 215% increase compared to the previous month.

Competitors to the CR-V include the Mazda CX-5, priced between VND 749 million and VND 979 million, the Ford Territory, ranging from VND 799 million to VND 929 million, the Hyundai Tucson, with a price tag of VND 769 million to VND 919 million, and the Kia Sportage, which starts at VND 779 million and goes up to VND 999 million.

The Honda Civic facelift was recently introduced at the Vietnam Motor Show 2024, featuring the addition of a hybrid variant. The G and L versions are priced at VND 789 million to VND 889 million, while the e:HEV RS model retails for VND 999 million.

In the C-segment sedan category, the Civic will go up against rivals such as the Mazda3, starting at VND 579 million, the MG5, with a price range of VND 459 million to VND 699 million, the Hyundai Elantra, priced from VND 579 million, and the Kia K3, which starts at VND 549 million.

The Civic Type R, a performance-focused variant, is offered in Vietnam with a sole 2.0L engine option and a 6-speed manual transmission. It carries an estimated price tag of VND 2.4 billion. Its main competitor, the Hyundai Elantra N, has not yet had its pricing revealed in the Vietnamese market.
