According to Carscoops, Ford has filed a lawsuit against a car modification company, accusing Vintage Modern of trademark infringement by altering modern Broncos to resemble classic versions.
The lawsuit was filed in a Northern Georgia court on Halloween, and Ford has requested a jury trial.
As per Carscoops, Ford’s move is considered risky as the jury could be persuaded by the argument that Vintage Modern simply modified the appearance of new Broncos to make them look older.
Vintage Modern claims their vehicles are modern cars with a classic exterior, offering the reliability and safety of a brand-new car. They advertise features such as anti-lock brakes, traction control, and a rearview camera.
Vintage Modern cars also come with modern conveniences like air conditioning and infotainment systems compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. According to Carscoops, these are features available in the latest Ford Broncos but are being sold with a classic exterior.
The modification company has tried to distance itself from Ford. Their brand name is Vintage Modern, and their website includes a disclaimer stating, “Vintage Modern is not sponsored, affiliated, endorsed, or certified by any automotive company, including Ford Motor Company.”
A Ford spokesperson shared with The Drive that they are taking a stand against those who exploit the company’s reputation and investments. |
“Vintage Bronco’s unauthorized modification and resale of modern Ford Broncos as ‘classic’ vehicles is misleading and unfairly profits from Ford and Bronco’s brand assets,” the spokesperson emphasized.
