The Firefly EV made its debut at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024. The car was pre-sold at a price of 148,800 Chinese yuan (USD 20,800). However, its specifications were not revealed until January 10 when the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) disclosed the core specifications of the Firefly EV in its application for a sales license.

Specifications of the compact Nio Firefly EV revealed

The exterior design of the Firefly EV aligns with the model unveiled during Nio Day 2024, despite some criticism. We remind you that Chinese netizens compared the Firefly EV’s headlights and taillights to iPhone cameras.

Moving on to the Nio Firefly electric vehicle, its dimensions include a length, width, and height of 4003/1781/1557 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2615 mm. It has small overhangs of 680 and 708 degrees, respectively. The approach and departure angles of the car are 21 and 26 degrees.

To be clear, the Firefly EV is 287 mm shorter than the BYD Dolphin targeted at the European market. In terms of size, it is comparable to the Renault Sandero. Despite its compact size, the Firefly EV rides on 18-inch wheels with relatively large 215/50 tires. It offers three variants of wheel design.

The curb weight of the car is 1,492 kg, and the gross weight is 1,875 kg. The Firefly EV can accommodate five people in its cabin and offers an optional black roof.

The Firefly EV is powered by a single TZ160S010 electric motor, produced by Nio Technology, which is located on the rear axle and delivers a maximum output of 105 kW (141 hp). This electric motor is energized by a swappable LFP battery pack manufactured by Sunwoda, with its capacity yet to be disclosed.

Prior information had revealed that the Firefly EV employs a five-link independent suspension system from Multimatic at the rear axle and an IPB system from Bosch. The car has a 50-50 weight distribution between the axles and offers a WLTP range of 225 km with a 75% charged battery.

Other highlights of the Firefly EV include a turning radius of 4.7 meters, a 92-liter front trunk, and a spacious rear trunk of up to 1,250 liters. The car is equipped with nine airbags and has a torsional stiffness of 35,700 Nm/degree.
