The Unassuming Toyota Camry Crowned ‘Car of the Year 2025’

On January 13, 2025, the highly anticipated Car of the Year 2025 award ceremony took place after 3 weeks of voting. A total of 21 awards were announced, including 14 popular car awards in different price segments, 6 awards chosen by a jury, and the ultimate Car of the Year 2025 award.

The Toyota Camry 2.5 HEV TOP emerged as the Car of the Year 2025, with a total of 1,022 points from 32 jury members. Interestingly, the Toyota Camry 2.5 HEV TOP tied with the Volvo S90 Recharge in terms of points. To break the tie, the jury held a public vote, and the Toyota Camry 2024 HEV TOP secured three-quarters of the jury’s votes, earning the prestigious title.

Despite its understated appeal, the Toyota Camry swept the “Car of the Year 2025” title.

Although the Toyota Camry 2024 2.5 HEV TOP did not score the highest in any single criterion, its overall score was the highest among all the contenders.

In addition to the Car of the Year award, the jury also recognized excellence in six other categories:

Prior to this, in the first stage of the competition, 14 car models were selected as the most popular choices by consumers and the jury, across various price segments:

First organized in 2021, the Car of the Year award is a nationwide program in Vietnam that not only recognizes outstanding car models each year but also promotes advancements in design, technology, safety, performance, and environmental protection.

In its fourth year, the Car of the Year program introduced a new categorization based on price and form instead of vehicle size. Additionally, the program focused on cars priced below 3 billion VND, making the awards more accessible and relevant to the majority of domestic consumers.

The eight criteria used for evaluating the Car of the Year 2025 were:

• Exterior Design
• Interior Design and Materials
• Performance and Driving Experience
• Safety
• Energy Efficiency and Environmental Impact
• Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
• Comfort and Convenience
• Innovation

Beyond the awards, the Car of the Year program also organized test drive events for customers and jury members, ensuring accurate, objective, and fair evaluation. This year, the northern region test drive event was held on a larger scale, becoming the biggest gathering of car models for test drives to date, catering to three groups: the jury, media channels, and customers.

The northern region test drive event took place over two days, December 25 and 26, 2024, while the southern region test drive event for jury members was held on January 7, 2025. All the cars featured in these three events were new models launched in 2024.
