According to Carscoops, owners of Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot, Honda Fit, Honda HR-V, or Acura MDX vehicles manufactured between 2013 and the present with white exterior paint may be eligible to join a class-action lawsuit alleging poor-quality finish paint.
The lawsuit claims that defects in the paintwork of the aforementioned Honda and Acura vehicles can lead to peeling, blistering, and complete delamination, resulting in an unsightly, patchy appearance.
Filed in a California district court, the lawsuit alleges that Honda’s White Diamond Pearl, Taffeta White, White Orchid Pearl, and Bellanova White paints are faulty due to manufacturing issues and the complexity of the three-stage painting process.
The allegations contend that this defect was latent at the time of manufacture and has manifested consistently during the vehicles’ use.
The plaintiffs argue that Honda should have disclosed these defects at the point of sale. They also note that the Japanese automaker has previously issued three technical service bulletins and extended warranties for the affected vehicles, acknowledging the issue.
The report mentions that the paint defects have been observed on the relevant vehicles across all US states, ruling out geographical or environmental factors.
Most of the affected vehicles were manufactured at Honda’s Lincoln, Alabama plant between 2013 and 2017 and painted using an automated robot system.
The lawsuit also contends that Honda was or should have been aware of this issue, given the numerous complaints made directly to the automaker or shared online on platforms monitored by Honda.
Carscoops mentions that this is not the first time Honda has faced lawsuits related to paint issues. In 2018, the Japanese automaker encountered a similar class-action lawsuit in Canada over peeling paint, ultimately resulting in a $27 million settlement in 2022.
