As reported, the Vietnamese automotive market experienced a strong recovery in 2024, with cumulative sales of 427,458 vehicles, representing a 19% growth compared to 2023. 10 Best-Selling Cars in Vietnam in 2024 (in units)
The VinFast VF 5 topped the charts as the most popular model in Vietnam last year. A total of 32,000 electric vehicles from this domestic brand were purchased by Vietnamese customers in 2024. Besides individual buyers, the VF 5 also benefited from the nationwide boom in the Xanh SM electric taxi service.
Closely following the VF 5 is its sibling, the VinFast VF 3. Despite only being delivered to domestic customers since August 2024, the VF 3 achieved impressive sales of 25,000 units, securing second place in the market. The allure of this electric car lies in its attractive pricing, starting at just 240 million VND (with a battery lease) and 322 million VND (with a battery purchase).
The VinFast duo leads the market in 2024.
Ranking third in the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam for 2024 is the Mitsubishi Xpander. This small MPV sold a cumulative total of 19,498 units last year, a slight decrease of 1.2% compared to 2023. It was not only the best-selling MPV in its segment but also the top-performing model for the Mitsubishi brand in Vietnam. Additionally, the Mitsubishi Xpander was the most popular choice among traditional gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles in the domestic market.
Ford Ranger secured fourth place with 17,508 units sold, reflecting an 8.8% growth compared to the previous year. This performance translates to a 75% market share in the pickup truck segment for the Ranger, marking the 12th consecutive year of its leadership in this category.
Right behind the Ford Ranger is the Mazda CX-5, which sold 14,781 units, a 12% decrease in sales. Despite the decline, the CX-5 remains the best-selling model in the C-size SUV segment and a significant revenue generator for the Mazda brand in Vietnam.
Mitsubishi Xforce claimed sixth place with impressive sales of 14,407 units, especially considering that this B-size SUV was only introduced to the Vietnamese market in March 2024. Together with the Xpander, the Xforce contributed significantly to Mitsubishi’s 33% growth last year, solidifying the brand’s position as the fifth best-selling automotive brand in Vietnam, after VinFast, Hyundai, Toyota, and Ford.
Toyota Vios, with 14,210 units sold, experienced a 5% increase in sales compared to 2023. This performance allowed the Vios to reclaim its leading position in the B-segment sedan category, outpacing its rival, the Hyundai Accent. Consistent with previous years, the Vios was also Toyota’s best-selling model in Vietnam for 2024.
Hyundai Accent, the “arch-rival” of the Toyota Vios, secured the eighth position. Hyundai sold 13,538 units of the Accent in Vietnam last year, reflecting a 22.4% decrease in sales.
Toyota Yaris Cross ranked ninth, with cumulative sales of 11,174 units in 2024, an impressive 264% growth rate. This significant increase is attributed to the fact that the Yaris Cross was only sold during the last four months of 2023, resulting in lower cumulative sales of 3,065 units for that year. In the B-size SUV segment, the Yaris Cross currently holds the second position in terms of sales, following the Mitsubishi Xforce.
Rounding out the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam for 2024 is the Ford Everest. Ford sold 10,841 units of the Everest in 2024, reflecting a 9% growth compared to the previous year. Similar to the Ranger, the Ford Everest maintained its leading position in its segment.
The above overview highlights a noticeable shift in preferences among Vietnamese customers towards higher-riding vehicles. Only two low-riding models, the Toyota Vios and Hyundai Accent, made it into the top 10 list.
