In a surprising move, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu has recently added the Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray sports car to his collection, purchasing the remaining vehicle in Vietnam. This adds a companion to his first car, reflecting the businessman’s passion for owning unique and rare models.
With this latest acquisition, the “Vietnamese Coffee King” now owns two Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray sports cars—one in yellow and the newly purchased one in silver.
The C3 is the third generation of the Corvette sports car produced by Chevrolet from 1967 to 1982. While the engine and chassis remained largely unchanged from the previous generation, the C3 introduced a new body and interior design.
It set a new sales record with 53,807 units produced for the 1979 model year. The C3 also marked the second time the Corvette bore the Stingray name, although it was only used for the 1969–76 models.
This time, the name was spelled as “Stingray,” in contrast to the “Sting Ray” used for the C2 generation from 1963 to 1967. The name was then discontinued until 2014 when it returned with the introduction of the C7.
The most expensive Corvette C3 ever sold was the 1969 L88 Lightweight, one of only four L88 lightweight models produced. It fetched $2.86 million (£1.72 million) at a Barrett-Jackson auction in January 2014.
