On January 16, BYD held a press conference in Incheon, South Korea, to officially announce its plans to enter the South Korean automotive market. BYD declared that it will introduce three models to the South Korean market this year: the BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, and BYD Sealion 7.
The BYD Atto 3 will be the first vehicle available for pre-order starting today. Deliveries to customers are expected to begin in mid-February. This announcement comes on the heels of South Korean regulators granting emission and noise certification for the Atto 3.
The Atto 3 will be offered in two versions: a standard model and an Atto 3 Plus variant. Both are equipped with a 60.48 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Under normal conditions, the range on a single charge is 321 kilometers. The battery can also be charged from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The starting price for the Atto 3 is set at 31,000,000 KRW (approximately 21,300 USD). For reference, in China, the BYD Atto 3 (known as the BYD Yuan Plus) is priced at 119,800 Chinese yuan (around 16,650 USD) for the base model. In Vietnam, the Dynamic and Premium variants are sold for 766 million and 886 million VND, respectively.
BYD’s South Korean subsidiary plans to launch the compact electric vehicle BYD Seal and the electric SUV Sealion 7 this year. These models are expected to be introduced in the first half of 2025.
BYD is not new to South Korea. The company has been operating in the country for almost a decade, providing products such as electric forklifts, electric buses, and electric trucks.
BYD is partnering with six authorized dealers in South Korea. They have announced plans to open 15 showrooms and 11 service centers in major cities and areas, including Seoul and Jeju Island.
