What led you to become a ride-hailing driver?

I started providing ride-hailing services about seven years ago. Initially, I drove taxis for companies. Later, when I had a stable customer base, I invested in a Hyundai Grand i10 sedan for private rides.

In October 2024, I sold that car and switched to the VinFast VF 5 Plus. Now, I serve both my regular customers and new ones through the Xanh SM app, utilizing the Xanh SM Platform.

What prompted you to make this choice? 

Many fellow ride-hailing drivers have already transitioned to electric vehicles. After researching and seeking advice, I found that the VF 5 Plus, in particular, and electric vehicles, in general, offer numerous advantages.

Another factor is Hanoi’s plan to ban gasoline vehicles in five areas. This will significantly impact my work in the future. Coupled with my desire to contribute to a greener environment, I decided to purchase this car.

After three months of using the VinFast VF 5 Plus, what do you like most about it?

So far, my car has covered more than 14,000 kilometers in three months, averaging nearly 5,000 kilometers per month. 

The aspect I appreciate the most is the absence of gasoline odor. It may sound obvious, but this has significantly improved my health. Previously, if I drove all day, I would feel slightly tired from inhaling gasoline fumes. Additionally, electric vehicles are cleaner, and the in-cabin experience is more comfortable.

These factors not only make me feel better but also help my passengers relax and feel more comfortable, even on long journeys.

Moreover, the VF 5 Plus demonstrates superior performance compared to gasoline cars. It accelerates better, and its chassis and steering wheel feel sturdier. The car is also equipped with advanced technologies that make driving easier.

Three “No-Cost” Benefits and a Significant Boost in Income

Does charging your electric vehicle pose any challenges, especially since you’re based in the outskirts of Hanoi?

Not at all. In fact, there are numerous VinFast electric vehicle charging stations everywhere, not just in the center of Hanoi. Even though I live in Dan Phuong District, there are already several public charging points available.

Additionally, VinFast is offering incentives for home charging station installations. So, I plan to invest in a small-capacity charging station at home for added convenience.

The extensive network of charging stations ensures that Mr. Thuan never faces difficulties when he needs to charge his electric vehicle.

Can you share the details of your monthly operating costs for the VF 5 Plus? Are they significantly different from when you used a gasoline car?

Yes, there’s a big difference because I now incur almost no costs. I bought the car with the battery included, so I don’t pay a monthly battery rental fee. VinFast offers free charging, so I don’t pay for that either. The car is parked at my house, so there’s no parking fee. My most significant expense is car washing, which costs about 70,000 VND per wash. In contrast, I used to spend about 5 million VND per month on gasoline alone for a total distance of about 3,500 kilometers.

Additionally, the maintenance costs of a gasoline car are much higher. For every 5,000 kilometers, the maintenance cost for a gasoline car is about 500,000 VND. In comparison, an electric vehicle only needs maintenance every 12,000 kilometers, and the cost is approximately 450,000 VND.

Does this mean your monthly income has increased since switching to the VF 5 Plus?

Absolutely. My income has increased since I switched to an electric vehicle. Previously, I earned about 15-17 million VND per month. Now, that figure has risen to approximately 23-25 million VND per month. Several factors contribute to this improvement.

Firstly, the most apparent benefit is the elimination of monthly gasoline expenses.

Secondly, when I purchased the VinFast VF 5 Plus, I registered as a partner on the Xanh SM Platform. As a result, in addition to my existing customers, I gained access to new customers booking rides through the Xanh SM app. Consequently, my monthly mileage has increased from about 3,500 kilometers to nearly 5,000 kilometers due to the larger customer base.

Lastly, the Xanh SM Platform charges a fee of only about 20% of the trip fare, while other platforms charge over 30%. This difference is substantial and significantly impacts the driver’s earnings.
