Sales of A-segment cars in December 2024 saw an overall decline, which was expected as the Vietnamese auto market experienced a slowdown after the expiration of the 50% registration fee support for domestically produced and assembled cars.

Hyundai Grand i10:

Despite the decline in the A-segment, the Hyundai Grand i10 maintained its strong sales performance. With 751 units sold in December 2024, it continues to be the top-selling model in its class, despite a 27.4% decrease compared to the previous month. For the full year 2024, the Grand i10 dominated the segment with a total of 5,831 units sold, making it the 5th best-selling Hyundai model in Vietnam after the Accent, Creta, Santa Fe, and Tucson.

The updated Grand i10, introduced in 2024, features enhanced design and equipment while maintaining its competitive price range of VND 360-455 million. New features include LED daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, and power-adjustable side mirrors with turn signals. The infotainment system has been upgraded with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, and a Vietnam-specific navigation system. The engine remains the 1.2L Kappa MPi gasoline engine, producing 83 hp and 114 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Wigo:

The Toyota Wigo retained its position as the second best-selling model in the segment, with 252 units sold in December 2024, representing a 17.9% decrease month-over-month. Its cumulative sales for 2024 stood at 2,659 units, about half that of the Grand i10.

Reintroduced in Vietnam in 2023, the Wigo is offered in two variants, the E and G, priced from VND 360-405 million. However, Toyota recently discontinued the entry-level E variant, leaving only the G variant available. This decision is expected to impact the Wigo’s sales performance going forward. The Wigo boasts impressive design and equipment, featuring LED headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors, 14-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 4-speaker audio system. It also includes advanced safety features rarely found in this segment, such as the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) systems.

Under the hood, the Wigo is powered by a 1.2L gasoline engine paired with a Dual-CVT automatic transmission, delivering 87 hp and 113 Nm of torque. With the discontinuation of the E variant, the Wigo is now only available with an automatic transmission.

Kia Morning:

In contrast to its rivals, the Kia Morning struggled with poor sales, managing only 39 units in December 2024, a significant 58.9% drop. This placed the Morning among the least-sold cars in Vietnam for that month. For the full year 2024, the Morning accumulated sales of just 771 units, the lowest in the A-segment.

Priced competitively from VND 349-424 million, the Morning offers five variants. However, it lags in certain equipment compared to its competitors, lacking LED headlights and cruise control. Additionally, the Morning’s design and features have remained largely unchanged, contributing to its weaker sales performance.

Key features of the Morning include LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, power-adjustable side mirrors, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 6-speaker audio system, and automatic climate control. It is powered by a 1.25L Kappa gasoline engine, producing 83 hp and 120 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
