On January 30, 2025 (the second day of the Lunar New Year), a video emerged on social media showing a Ford Ranger pickup truck driving against traffic on the Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway. The video was captured by the dashboard camera of another vehicle.

According to initial information, the incident occurred at approximately 3:18 pm on January 30, 2025, at the 104-kilometer mark on the Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway. The Ford Ranger, with license plate number 14C-366XX from Quang Ninh Province, was seen driving against traffic in the leftmost lane, with a maximum allowed speed of 120 km/h.

Upon receiving this information, the Highway Road Traffic Police Team 2 (Office 6, Highway Traffic Police Bureau) promptly deployed operational measures, identified the driver, and invited them to their headquarters for an interview. By 4:00 pm on the same day, the owner of the aforementioned Ford Ranger had presented themselves.

The owner confirmed that they were the one driving the vehicle against traffic. The driver was identified as Ms. P.T.T., a 45-year-old resident of Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh Province.

Ms. T. admitted that she drove against traffic because she did not know the way. The female driver then wrote a statement, acknowledging the dangerous nature of her actions and pledging not to repeat such behavior.

According to the new regulations in Decree 168/2024, which came into force on January 1, 2025, the penalty for driving against traffic on an expressway is between VND 30 million and VND 40 million. In addition, the offender will have 10 points deducted from their driving license.
