Hongqi, a subsidiary of FAW Group, has recently unveiled a set of images of its new all-electric vehicle, the Tiangong 05. The car is expected to be officially launched after the Lunar New Year and will go on sale in China later this year.

The Tiangong 05 is the second model from Tiangong, a sub-brand of Hongqi, specializing in luxury vehicles. Previously, the brand also launched the SUV Tiangong 08.

The Tiangong 05’s design is inherited from the Hongqi E009 concept car and uses a Tiangong-dedicated electric vehicle platform. At the front, the slim headlight shape is retained from the concept, accented by separate light clusters. The lower grille has a trapezoidal design, while the original Hongqi New Energy logo has been replaced by the iconic Hongqi vertical logo, extending onto the front hood.

Viewed from the side, the Tiangong 05 has a sporty fastback profile, complemented by 18-inch wheels with a seven-petal floral design. The rear features a distinctive ‘Y’-shaped taillight design. The car’s dimensions are 4,820/1,915/1,480 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, and two unloaded weights: 1,890 kg and 2,018 kg.

The Tiangong 05 is equipped with an electric motor that produces a maximum output of 282 horsepower. It offers two battery options, providing all-electric ranges of 550 km and 750 km, respectively. The car has a top speed of 200 km/h. Other detailed specifications of the powertrain are yet to be officially announced.

The images reveal an interior trimmed in orange leather, a multifunctional two-spoke steering wheel, a floating central control screen, and a 65-inch AR-HUD. Other features include a 50W wireless charger, cup holders, and a storage compartment in the center console armrest area.

In 2024, Hongqi sold over 410,000 vehicles, a 17.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Since announcing its new energy vehicle strategy, ‘All in’, on January 8, 2023, Hongqi has established three sub-brands: Hongqi Golden Sunflower, Hongqi New Energy, and Hongqi Energy Saving Vehicle. Recently, Hongqi launched the Tiangong series to further capture the NEV market. However, Carnewschina magazine notes that with the Tiangong 05’s underwhelming specifications, the FAW Group brand may struggle to compete.
