As per tradition, the Focus2move page has released the list of the 10 best-selling cars in the world for 2024. This list is based on data that Focus2move has compiled monthly from a total of 162 countries worldwide.

According to Focus2move’s list, the best-selling car model in the world last year was the Tesla Model Y. In 2024, this electric car model sold 1.09 million units, a slight decrease of 1.2% compared to 2023. Although it has not yet replaced traditional gasoline and diesel engine cars, electric cars like the Tesla Model Y have gradually appeared in the top-selling cars globally.

Of the total number of Tesla Model Y cars sold in 2024, Chinese customers contributed up to 44%. Specifically, last year, Tesla sold 480,309 Model Y cars in China, a growth of 5.2%. This is also the second best-selling model in the billion-people market in 2024, only after BYD Song.

The new Tesla Model Y version, named Juniper, launched in late 2024, promises to add even more appeal to this “sales king.”

The second best-selling car model globally in 2024 was the Toyota Corolla. Last year, this C-segment model sold 1.08 million units, a decrease of 3.1%. Thus, the Toyota Corolla was the best-selling gasoline and diesel car in the world in 2024. It is also the best-selling Toyota car and the most popular Japanese car in general. This once again reinforces the position of the Toyota Corolla as the best-selling car of all time.

Ranking third in the global market is the Toyota RAV4 with sales of 1.02 million units, a growth of 10%. Of that number, the US market alone contributed 475,195 cars, an increase of 9.3% compared to 2023. With this result, the RAV4 is the best-selling C-segment SUV and the most popular high-riding car in the world in 2024.

The fourth position belongs to the Ford F-Series, with 903,454 units sold, a slight increase of 1.5%. This result is actually very impressive because this large-size pickup truck model from Ford is mainly sold in the North American market, including the US, Canada, and Mexico. In the US domestic market alone, the Ford F-Series is the “sales king” for 43 consecutive years, with 763,940 units sold in 2024, an increase of 1.8%.

Ranking right behind the Ford F-Series is the Honda CR-V with sales growth of 4.2% to 738,743 units. This is the best-selling model of the Honda brand and the third most popular Japanese car in the world, only after the Toyota Corolla and RAV4. The Honda CR-V is also the second best-selling high-riding car globally last year. This success is mainly due to the US market, with sales of 402,791 units in 2024, an increase of 11.4%.

Following that is the Chevrolet Silverado, which became the choice of 639,889 customers in 2024, an increase of 1.5%. Like its direct competitor, the Ford F-Series, the Chevrolet Silverado is a large-size pickup truck mainly sold in the North American region. Therefore, the performance of the Ford F-Series is also very respectable. In 2024, Americans bought 560,265 Silverado cars, an increase of 0.9%.

The seventh position belongs to the Hyundai Tucson with 609,014 units sold, a decrease of 2.8%. This result makes the Tucson the best-selling Korean car in 2024. This achievement is thanks to some large markets such as the US and South Korea. In 2024, the Hyundai Tucson was the tenth best-selling model in the South Korean domestic market, with sales of 55,257 units, an increase of 26.3%.

Next is the Toyota Camry, with sales down 9.1% to 580,297 units. This is the best-selling D-segment sedan in the world in 2024. The result of the Toyota Camry somewhat shows that family sedans still have a place in the world market, even though many manufacturers have abandoned this segment to focus their resources on high-riding cars. The US market also contributed significantly to the Camry’s sales, with 309,875 units sold, an increase of 6.6%.

Global customers prefer Japanese and American cars.

Ranking behind the Toyota Camry is the BYD Song – the only representative of Chinese cars in the top 10. In 2024, consumers bought a total of 574,351 units of this Chinese car, an increase of 45.3%. Notably, all of these sales were generated in the Chinese domestic market. This has shown the appeal of the BYD brand in the eyes of consumers in the billion-people market. Thanks to that, BYD became the best-selling brand in China in 2024 with sales of 3,524,482 units, accounting for a market share of 15.34%.

The last model in the top 10 best-selling cars in the world in 2024 is the Volkswagen Tiguan. This SUV from Germany has sales of 543,351 units, an increase of 10.5%. The Tiguan is also the only representative of German cars and the Volkswagen brand in this top 10 list.

The 10 best-selling cars in the world in 2024.

From the above top 10, it can be seen that Japanese and American cars are still the first choice of global consumers. There are a total of four Japanese car models in the top 10, including the Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Toyota Camry. In addition, there are three representatives of American car brands, including the Tesla Model Y, Ford F-Series, and Chevrolet Silverado.
