According to Carscoops, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just released its list of Top Safety Pick award winners, recognizing 19 new vehicles, including pure electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engine models.

The Top Safety Pick award is given to vehicles that achieve a “Good” rating in a range of crash tests, including small and moderate overlap front crash tests and the updated side crash test. Additionally, vehicles must also be rated “Good” or “Acceptable” for headlights across all versions and have effective front crash prevention for pedestrians.

The following nine vehicles have been awarded the basic Top Safety Pick rating: Audi Q8, Ford F-150 SuperCab, Ford F-150 SuperCrew, Infiniti QX80, Kia K4, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Nissan Kicks, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Crown Signia.

Some of these vehicles may be upgraded to the Top Safety Pick+ rating in the near future. Carscoops explains that most of the above-mentioned vehicles have not yet undergone the Moderate Overlap Front Crash Test recently updated by IIHS. If they continue to achieve a “Good” rating in this test, they will be eligible for the higher award.

IIHS also announced the Top Safety Pick+ winners for this year, including 10 new vehicles: Ford Mustang Mach-E, Infiniti QX60, Mazda CX-70, Mazda CX-70 PHEV, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Rivian R1S, Subaru Forester, Toyota Tundra SuperCab, and Volvo XC90 PHEV.

According to Carscoops, these 19 vehicles complete the list of 56 models that have earned the Top Safety Pick award for 2024 from IIHS.

Two vehicles missed out on the Top Safety Pick award due to falling short in one criterion. The Cadillac Lyriq was rated “Poor” for headlight performance, while the Ford Bronco Sport achieved an “Acceptable” rating in the updated side crash test.

Carscoops notes that these awards are specific to certain production periods. For instance, the Top Safety Pick+ award for the Ford Mustang Mach-E is only applicable to vehicles manufactured after August 2024.
