The Rivian R1T is known for its hefty repair costs. In some cases, the repair bill can amount to the price of a brand-new vehicle.
Electric vehicles tend to be more expensive to repair than their gasoline counterparts, although this gap has narrowed in recent years. A survey last year revealed that repairing an electric car after an accident tends to be 20% pricier than fixing a gas-powered car.
Recently, a Rivian R1T owner shared the repair bill for their pickup truck. According to the images, the electric truck sustained a cracked taillight, along with some minor damage to the truck bed’s door and rear bumper.
The initial estimate from the insurance company for repairing this electric pickup was $1,400. However, an authorized Rivian service center charged over $7,490 (VND 189 million) to fix the issues. According to Carscoops, this amount is equivalent to the cost of refurbishing an old car.

For more severe damage, the repair cost of the Rivian R1T can match the price of a new car. In May 2023, a Rivian R1T owner had to pay $40,000 (VND 1.01 billion) to repair the rear bumper and fix a dent in the rear door. In another instance, an R1T that was badly hit from the rear, resulting in severe scratches and dents to the taillight and rear bumper, incurred a repair bill of $21,149 (VND 535 million).
According to Carscoops, the Rivian R1T’s repair costs are generally higher than its competitors due to its unique parts, complex vehicle structure, limited repair centers, and high labor costs. Additionally, Rivian R1T owners often face long wait times for repairs due to parts shortages.
