Koenigsegg has come a long way since their supercars were first introduced on Top Gear almost two decades ago. Their vehicles have not only become significantly more powerful, but they’ve also incorporated cutting-edge technologies, high-revving engines, and transmissions that provide lightning-fast gear shifts.
So, it came as no surprise that when Top Gear was given the opportunity to test the Jesko Attack at Dunsfold Airport, The Stig proceeded to set a new lap record in this Swedish supercar.
The Koenigsegg Jesko – now with a new racing record, added to the basket by a Vietnamese millionaire
The Jesko represents the current pinnacle of Koenigsegg’s lineup. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.1-liter V8 engine that produces a staggering 1,280 horsepower on pump gas or 1,600 horsepower on E85 fuel. This engine is unique not only for its immense power but also for its 180-degree flat-plane crankshaft and sky-high 8,500-rpm redline.
Moreover, it takes just 213 milliseconds for the engine to rev from idle to 7,800 rpm, making it the fastest-revving production engine in the world.
Prior to Koenigsegg’s test run on the Top Gear track, the record for a street-legal car was held by the Ferrari SF90 Stradale with a time of 1:11.3. This beat out the likes of the Ferrari 488 Pista (1:12.7), Dallara Stradale (1:12.8), and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (1:13.4). The Jesko Attack managed to blitz the course in just 1:10.9.
This time is only 0.2 seconds slower than the Ferrari FXX and some other non-street-legal cars like the Caparo T1, Aston Martin DBR9, Pagani Zonda R, and McLaren 720S GTX.
You might be surprised to learn that the Jesko is ‘only’ 0.4 seconds quicker than the SF90 Stradale, despite having around 600 more horsepower, being 250 kg lighter, and producing significantly more downforce. Well, firstly, the SF90 Stradale benefits from all-wheel drive, whereas the Jesko is rear-wheel drive.
Additionally, the Top Gear track is fairly compact, and The Stig could only floor the accelerator a few times. If the track had longer straights and more high-speed corners, the Koenigsegg might have been even faster than the Ferrari.
The McLaren Elva: A Dream Come True for Minh “Nhựa”?
The McLaren Elva is an engineering masterpiece and an ultimate expression of McLaren’s philosophy. With its powerful engine and lightweight construction, it’s a thrill-seeker’s dream. However, over two years after its purchase, this supercar is yet to pass its registration inspection and obtain its license plate.
