The Volkswagen Teramont is a large SUV that made its debut in 216. After nearly nine years on the market, the German automaker is preparing to introduce the 5th generation of this model.

The new generation, known as the Volkswagen Teramont Pro in the Chinese market, was recently spotted in a factory in the country before its official launch in late Q1 this year.

Similar to its predecessor, the Teramont Pro will be produced and distributed by the Volkswagen-SAIC joint venture in China. Underneath its shell lies the familiar MQB Evo platform.

According to information published on the website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Volkswagen Teramont Pro measures 5,158 mm in length, 1,991 mm in width, and 1,788 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,980 mm. Compared to the previous generation, it is 61 mm longer, while the other dimensions remain almost unchanged.

In terms of exterior design, the 2025 Volkswagen Teramont Pro has been refined. Similar to other Volkswagen models, the Teramont also offers different designs for various trim levels.

The lower trim features a narrow grille and a trapezoidal central air intake with a silver trim surrounding it. Volkswagen’s logo sits in the center of the two-tone front fascia, with the upper half being transparent and housing the LED daytime running lights, while the lower half is glossy black. Additionally, the SUV sports a large two-tier headlights design. Below the headlights is a prominent longitudinal air intake.

On the sides, the Teramont Pro boasts a prominent character line that runs from the headlights to the taillights. Its door handles are flush-mounted, similar to those found on electric vehicles. The SUV also features multi-spoke two-tone alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Volkswagen Teramont Pro is equipped with horizontal taillights positioned below a black trim that houses the Volkswagen logo. Below the logo is a prominent “Teramont Pro” badge. The rear bumper incorporates a thin light bar and a black trim piece, mirroring the front end. Additionally, the rear diffuser is finished in glossy black with a thick silver accent, creating a cohesive look with the front bumper.

The higher-end trim of the Teramont Pro showcases a sportier and more aggressive design. It features a honeycomb grille and central air intake, with enlarged air intakes at the corners, all finished in glossy black. Additionally, the Volkswagen logo at the front and rear is illuminated, adding a distinctive touch.

While official images of the interior have not been released, spy shots of the SUV during road testing reveal a simple and robust design. The Teramont Pro features a large digital instrument cluster and a centrally-mounted infotainment screen that sits atop the dashboard.

The central control cluster of the Teramont Pro is similar to that of the Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro. It features a volume knob, driving mode selector, and climate control with an integrated small screen. There’s also a large center armrest, electronic parking brake, covered storage compartment, and two cup holders.

Under the hood of the 2025 Volkswagen Teramont Pro is a mild-hybrid powertrain with a 5th-generation EA888 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine. This engine produces a maximum output of 271 horsepower, a significant increase compared to the previous generation. The SUV is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and has a top speed of 200 km/h. This new engine promises improved fuel efficiency for the large SUV.

Following its launch in China, the Volkswagen Teramont Pro is expected to be introduced in other global markets, including Vietnam. Volkswagen currently offers several models imported from China in Vietnam, such as the Teramont X and Viloran.
