Toyota has unveiled the new Hilux Rangga, also known as the Hilux Champ, in Indonesia. This SUV is based on the popular Hilux pickup truck platform. Initially, Rangga was a modified version of the Hilux created by New Armada, a bus body manufacturer.

However, the latest iteration will be distributed by Toyota Indonesia as a complete product. The Hilux Rangga boasts an off-road SUV design reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender. The front end retains the bold styling of the Hilux, with a prominent front bumper, while the rear has been modified to suit the SUV profile, starting from pillar B.

The rear end features a boxy design that complements the rugged front fascia. The vehicle’s name is centered on the tailgate, with vertical LED taillights on either side. The cabin of the Rangga remains largely unchanged from the Hilux, except for the addition of two rear rows of seats in a 2+3+2 configuration, upholstered in leather.

The Toyota Hilux Rangga utilizes the same ladder frame IMV chassis as the Hilux and Fortuner. It is offered with two engine options: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 137 horsepower and a 2.4-liter diesel engine generating 148 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

According to Carscoops, the Toyota Hilux Rangga is expected to start at $25,000, and sales will commence in early 2024. It is unclear if Toyota intends to introduce this SUV in markets beyond Indonesia. If made available elsewhere, the Hilux Rangga could be an appealing option for off-road enthusiasts, offering a rugged design and a competitive price point.
