Top 10 Best-Selling City Cars in the World in 2024.
Topping the list is a model that has become familiar to Vietnamese consumers: the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. In the past year, global consumers purchased a total of 261,141 units of this Chinese electric car, reflecting a growth rate of 9.8%.
The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is currently available in markets such as China, Indonesia, and Vietnam. However, its sales performance is primarily driven by the Chinese domestic market, while sales in other markets are not significant.
In Vietnam, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is currently the most affordable car, with a price range of VND 197-265 million, depending on the variant. Despite its low price, this Chinese electric car has not gained significant traction in the Vietnamese market due to its sparse features, unfamiliar brand, and Chinese origin. Additionally, it faces intense competition from the VinFast VF3.
Wuling Hongguang Mini EV – Vietnam’s most affordable car – leads the top 10 best-selling city cars in the world in 2024.
Securing the second position is the Bingo, a sibling model of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. In 2024, this model sold 230,301 units, achieving a remarkable 37.3% growth rate. Similar to the Mini EV, the Bingo’s ranking is largely attributed to its performance in the Chinese domestic market.
Compared to the Hongguang Mini EV, the Wuling Bingo is a newer model with a higher price tag. However, it makes up for this with its more extensive features and impressive design, reminiscent of Porsche’s luxury vehicles.
In addition to China, the Wuling Bingo is currently available in markets such as Indonesia and Vietnam. Introduced in Vietnam in late 2024, this electric car is priced between VND 349-569 million.
The third position in the top 10 best-selling city cars in the world in 2024 goes to the Suzuki Wagon R. Its sales performance showed a 5.2% decline, with 190,855 units sold. The majority of these vehicles were sold to customers in India.
Right behind is another Suzuki model, the Spacia. In 2024, global customers purchased a total of 165,694 units of the Suzuki Spacia, reflecting a significant growth rate of 35.5%. All of these sales were generated in the Japanese domestic market, which is not surprising as the Suzuki Spacia is a kei car exclusive to Japan. In Japan, the Spacia was the fourth best-selling car in 2024, following the Honda N-Box, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Yaris.
Another Chinese model in the top 10 is the Changan Lumin, which occupies the fifth position. The sales volume of the Lumin increased by 6.1% to 145,168 units, and these vehicles were all sold to Chinese consumers.
In sixth place is the Geely Panda Mini, with 131,599 units sold, representing a 20% growth rate. This is the fourth Chinese model in the list, indicating the popularity of these compact city cars among Chinese consumers.
Following closely is the Perodua Myvi, with a slight sales increase of 2% to 125,545 units. The Myvi is a city car produced by the Malaysian brand Perodua. Its sales performance is impressive, considering that it is mainly sold in the domestic market. In Southeast Asia, the Perodua Myvi was the second best-selling car in 2024, only surpassed by the Toyota Hilux. It was also Perodua’s top-selling model last year.
Ranking eighth is the Fiat Panda, with 122,656 units sold, a 4.1% decline. Of these, 99,871 units were sold to Italian customers. The Panda currently accounts for nearly 70% of Fiat’s total sales in the domestic market.
In addition to the Wagon R and Spacia, Suzuki contributes another model to the top 10: the Alto. This affordable car achieved sales of 112,835 units in the previous year, reflecting a notable growth rate of 23.1%.
Finally, the tenth position goes to another model available in Vietnam, the Hyundai Grand i10. Its sales volume reached 111,962 units, a 9.2% decrease.
In Vietnam, the Hyundai Grand i10 was the best-selling car in the A-segment in 2024, with cumulative sales of 5,831 units. However, its largest market is India.
