The Toyota Wigo, a popular A-segment car in Vietnam, has recently undergone a few changes. On the official Toyota Vietnam website, the Wigo is now only offered with an automatic transmission option. Vietnamese customers can choose the Wigo G version, which comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and is priced at 405 million VND.
According to a sales consultant at a Toyota dealership in Ho Chi Minh City, while they have not received an official announcement from the manufacturer, they confirmed that they have stopped importing the manual transmission version of the Wigo some time ago.
The Toyota Wigo made a comeback in Vietnam in June 2023, imported from Indonesia, and was initially offered in two versions with prices of 360 million VND for the E version and 405 million VND for the G version. The new Wigo featured a refreshed exterior design, an upgraded cockpit, and enhanced safety features. Both versions were powered by a 1.2L 3-cylinder engine that produced 86 horsepower and 112.9 Nm of torque.
The E version was equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the G version came with a CVT. Background image caption: The Toyota Wigo returned to Vietnam in 2023. Photo by Boi Ha.

After a temporary absence from the Vietnamese market, the Toyota Wigo returned to compete with the Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Morning, its Korean rivals in the A-segment. In June 2024, Hyundai released an upgraded version of the Grand i10, offering two body styles and six different versions, with prices ranging from 360 to 455 million VND. The manual transmission versions of the hatchback and sedan are priced at 360 million VND and 380 million VND, respectively.
Kia Morning, on the other hand, has not seen any significant upgrades since 2020. Currently, the A-segment car is offered in four versions, with the MT version starting at 349 million VND and the top-of-the-line X-Line and GT-Line versions priced at 424 million VND.
As of November 2024, the Hyundai Grand i10 maintained its lead in sales within the segment, with 5,080 units sold. The Toyota Wigo followed with 2,407 units, while the Kia Morning trailed with 732 units sold in the same period.
With the discontinuation of the manual transmission option, the Toyota Wigo’s competitiveness in the A-segment market may be impacted. At the previous price point of 360 million VND for the Wigo MT, customers already had alternative options in the neighboring segment, such as the Kia Soluto with manual transmission versions starting at 386 million VND or the Mitsubishi Attrage MT at 380 million VND.
Additionally, at this price range, customers can now consider electric vehicle options like the Wuling Bingo, starting at 349 million VND, or the VinFast VF 3, with a car and battery package priced at 322 million VND.
