In a recent development, Audi has once again made headlines by announcing changes to their vehicle naming convention, just shy of two years since the previous renaming.
Moving forward, Audi will revert to its pre-2023 naming system. The numerical series from 1 to 9 will indicate the size of the vehicle, with larger numbers corresponding to larger models. To differentiate between electric and gasoline-powered cars, consumers will need to pay attention to the suffix appended to the model name.
Specifically, gasoline-powered cars will feature the suffix TFSI, while hybrid models will be denoted by TDI. Plug-in hybrid vehicles will be identified by TFSIe, and purely electric cars will bear the e-tron suffix.
In addition to these suffixes, Audi has introduced three additional suffixes that indicate body configurations: Sedan, Avant, and Sportback.
Along with this “new” naming convention, Audi has also revealed the future names of some upcoming models. Notably, the soon-to-be-launched A7 will revert to the classic A6 moniker. However, models that have already been launched and named will retain their current names, such as the Audi A5, which will not revert to A4.
