For the first time, the Pantone Color Institute has included a brand’s exclusive color in its fashion trend report. Turbonite (or PQ-2336C, as per Pantone’s code) is a unique shade associated with Porsche automobiles, featured in the Spring/Summer 2025 Color Trend Report.

By including Turbonite in its 2025 color palette, Pantone highlights the intersection of automotive design and fashion. This crossover is also evident in the sponsorship of the F1 racing league (Formula 1) by the luxury conglomerate LVMH.

Porsche’s Signature Color

Turbonite is the signature color of Porsche Turbo models. This metallic shade, with its subtle copper undertones and a satin-like finish, gives the Turbo variants a distinctive appearance.

The automotive brand emphasizes that gray is not only timeless but also a reflection of the present, accentuating Porsche’s sophistication.

“It is a color that is both elegant and striking, blending heritage with contemporary style. This hue is innovative and powerful, drawing inspiration from nature and minerals. It took years of research and development to perfect, making it highly anticipated,” shared a Porsche representative.

Turbonite was conceived from the premise of intersecting automotive design with fashion trends. Michael Mauer, Vice President of Style at Porsche, recognized the strong connection between the car brand and Pantone.

“All designers and artists are familiar with the existence of the Pantone Color System. This standardized color reference has become an essential tool in the design process, similar to how the Porsche 911 is recognized as the archetype of all sports cars over the past 60 years,” said Michael Mauer.

Beyond Porsche Cars

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, also explained the reason for including Turbonite in the Spring/Summer 2025 Fashion Trend Report.

“Automotive design and fashion have influenced each other for many years. Trend forecasters observe this interplay and recognize the emergence of novelties in these fields,” said Laurie Pressman.

According to the Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, Turbonite has the potential to become an iconic color that shapes the perception of the Porsche brand for years to come.

“Simply put, this metallic gray shade is quite unique and instantly evokes the image of the automotive brand,” she added.

However, the association with Porsche cars is not the only reason for the color’s inclusion. As per Pantone’s website, Turbonite aligns with the recent trend of quiet luxury in the fashion industry.

This hue celebrates elegance, subtlety, sustainability, and minimalism. The metallic gray, with its muted patina, symbolizes eternity. Additionally, the natural world is a prominent element, with the glossy finish opening up a rich mineral landscape that reflects the symbiotic relationship between nature and humanity.

With environmental protection and sustainability in fashion taking center stage, Turbonite is an ideal color choice for the upcoming year.

The trend of sustainable fashion is gradually increasing over the years

Since around 2014, searches for “cheap clothes” have been declining, while searches for “sustainable clothing” have been on the rise. In the book The Waste-Free World, author Ron Gonen attributes this shift to pioneers in the sustainable fashion movement, such as Stella McCartney, Eileen Fisher, and Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia.
