In the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final, Vietnamese striker Nguyen Xuan Son suffered a severe injury to his right leg. The naturalized player had to leave the field early and was hospitalized for immediate surgery.
Xuan Son’s performance and dedication deeply impressed many sponsors. Among them was Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam, a new automotive brand in the market. This is a joint venture between Geleximco Group and Chinese carmaker Chery.
Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam decided to present Xuan Son with a Jaecoo J7 PHEV car to express their admiration for the talented striker. Interestingly, this model is not yet officially sold in Vietnam.
Striker Nguyen Xuan Son received a Jaecoo J7 PHEV car that is not yet available in Vietnam.
Launched in November 2024, Omoda & Jaecoo Vietnam currently distributes only one model, the Omoda C5. On January 16, 2025, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is set to be introduced to domestic customers. Therefore, the selling price of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV in Vietnam remains a mystery. However, the car is expected to be priced higher than the Omoda C5’s starting price of VND 589 million.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is more expensive than the Omoda C5, despite belonging to the same B-segment SUV category, because it is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. The highlight of this Chinese model lies in its plug-in hybrid powertrain (PHEV), comprising a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor on the front axle, and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) system.
With this powertrain, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV boasts a combined output of 347 horsepower and a maximum torque of 525 Nm. With these specifications, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will be the most powerful SUV in the B-segment SUV market in Vietnam in the future.
Apart from its impressive power, this powertrain is also highly fuel-efficient. According to the manufacturer, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV can travel up to 88 kilometers on pure electric power. As a result, the car has an average fuel consumption of just 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers. When using both the gasoline engine and the battery, the car can cover a distance of up to 1,200 kilometers.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV has an impressive fuel economy of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers.
Compared to the Omoda C5, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is larger, with a length of 4,538 mm and a wheelbase of 2,672 mm. With these dimensions, it will directly compete with the Toyota Corolla Cross and the soon-to-be-launched Haval Jolion.
In addition to its fuel-efficient engine and larger size than typical B-segment SUVs, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV also boasts an exterior design inspired by the luxurious Range Rover SUV. It features a large grille with vertical slats, two-tier headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, hidden door handles, and connected taillights.

The interior offers a 5-seat layout with leather upholstery, a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.8-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as over-the-air software updates. Other features include two 50W wireless phone chargers, automatic climate control, rear seat air vents, a head-up display, ambient lighting, ventilated and heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV will be imported into Vietnam while the factory in Thai Binh province is under construction. This facility, with an investment of $800 million and an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles, will not only serve the Vietnamese market but also export vehicles. The plant is expected to be operational by 2026.
