Lamborghini Remains Committed to its Electrification Plans; Electric Supercar Based on the Lanzador Concept to Debut in 2030

Despite a global electric vehicle market that has fallen short of expectations and a decreasing demand, Lamborghini remains steadfast in its commitment to electrification. While other automakers have adjusted their plans, Lamborghini’s CEO has declared that they will not waver from their intended course.

According to Motor1, Lamborghini is on track to launch its first electric vehicle in 2030, with an expected output of up to 2,000 horsepower. This information was revealed by Mr. Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, in a recent interview with Autocar. The first electric Lamborghini will be developed on a dedicated platform for supercars, shared with other premium brands within the VW Group, including Porsche, Audi, and Bentley. This platform supports a maximum voltage of 980 volts.

The design of the electric vehicle will draw inspiration from the Lanzador concept, unveiled in mid-2023. Lamborghini confirmed that the commercial version will feature the Grand Tourer 2-door design and the special suspension system showcased in the concept.

Mr. Blume pledged, “This will be a true Lamborghini, delivering the intense emotions synonymous with our brand.”

The Lanzador concept boasts an output of 1,341 horsepower, equivalent to one megawatt. Mr. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, assured that the commercial version would match or exceed this power level. The electric vehicle will be equipped with two electric motors, ensuring all-wheel drive capability. Lamborghini plans to manufacture this model at its Sant’Agata factory in Italy.

Initially, the supercar manufacturer aimed to launch its electric vehicle in 2028, but the timeline has since been pushed back by two years. Nonetheless, Mr. Winkelmann expressed confidence that this electric model will achieve impressive sales figures, similar to those of the Temerario, the hybrid successor to the Huracan, introduced in August last year.
