In March 2025, Toyota unveiled a range of new models in the European market. Alongside the FT-Me Concept and C-HR+, the automotive giant also pulled the wraps off an updated version of its mid-size electric SUV, the bZ4X.
The Toyota bZ4X, the brand’s first electric vehicle for the mass market, was initially launched in 2022. The updated version of this model is expected to arrive at European dealerships by the end of this year.
According to Toyota, the new bZ4X boasts improved charging capabilities, increased power, and extended range. Previously, the vehicle was offered with only one battery option of 71.4 kWh. Now, customers can choose between two battery sizes: 57.7 kWh and 73.1 kWh.
The Toyota bZ4X receives an upgrade.
The smaller battery is exclusively available on the front-wheel-drive (FWD) version. On the other hand, the larger battery can be equipped on both FWD and all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants. The FWD model with the 57.7 kWh battery offers a range of up to 445 kilometers on a single charge, while the 73.1 kWh battery extends that to 573 kilometers. The AWD version provides a range of 520 kilometers.
Not only does the new bZ4X go further, but it’s also more powerful than its predecessor. Its compact and lightweight eAxle electric motor has been enhanced with silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, resulting in increased power output. The FWD model with the 57.7 kWh battery produces 167 horsepower, while the FWD version with the 73.1 kWh battery delivers 224 horsepower. The AWD variant generates an impressive 343 horsepower. Acceleration figures stand at 8.6 seconds, 7.4 seconds, and 5.1 seconds, respectively, for the 0-100 km/h sprint.
Additionally, the AWD model now boasts a towing capacity of 1.5 tons, double that of its previous iteration. A new 22 kW AC slow charger will be offered as standard on higher-end trims. Meanwhile, the fast-charging DC system has a maximum charging capacity of 150 kW.
Another notable improvement is the addition of battery heating and cooling functionality before charging. This feature, which can be activated manually or automatically, optimizes the battery temperature to facilitate higher charging rates. Furthermore, the vehicle’s navigation system includes a charging route planner that automatically selects the most convenient route and charging stations based on the remaining battery range.
In terms of design, the Toyota bZ4X has been refreshed both inside and out. The front of the vehicle has undergone the most significant changes, adopting Toyota’s new design language, which can be seen on other models like the Prius, the previous-generation Camry, and the new CH-R+. According to the manufacturer, this new look enhances the car’s aerodynamics and gives it a sleeker appearance. The rear of the vehicle, however, remains largely unchanged.

The interior has been refined, offering a more streamlined and less cluttered look. The infotainment display has been upgraded to a 14-inch unit, up from the previous 12.3-inch screen, and is now positioned on a wider and horizontally oriented central control panel. Below the central air vents, Toyota has replaced the storage compartment with two wireless charging trays.

Toyota has also fine-tuned the suspension and body of the bZ4X, resulting in reduced noise and vibrations, improved comfort, and enhanced handling dynamics.
As the world’s largest hybrid car manufacturer, Toyota brings a wealth of experience in battery technology. The company assures that the bZ4X’s battery will retain at least 70% of its capacity after a decade of use. In Europe, the vehicle is backed by an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty for the car and a 10-year or 1-million-kilometer warranty for the battery.
Pricing for the Toyota bZ4X in Europe has not yet been announced.
The Toyota bZ4X made its debut in Vietnam at the VMS 2022 auto show. However, the brand has not yet announced plans to distribute this electric vehicle in the Vietnamese market.
