Making a comeback in the Japanese market after more than 15 years, the Toyota Crown Estate is no longer a station wagon. Instead, it is positioned as a mid-size SUV with a wheelbase comparable to that of the new Toyota Land Cruiser.

Specifically, the Toyota Crown Estate has dimensions of 4,930 x 1,880 x 1,620 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, and a 2,850 mm wheelbase. This model is larger than both the Toyota Crown Sport and Crown Crossover siblings.

On the outside, this model adopts a design style similar to the other members of the new Toyota Crown family. It features a narrow grille with a Lexus-like design, ultra-slim LED daytime running lights, LED headlights positioned at the corners, and a wide central air intake on the front bumper.

Additionally, it boasts 21-inch alloy wheels with a dynamic grey multi-spoke design and thin LED taillights that stretch across the rear. Complementing these features are numerous high-gloss black exterior details, including the front and rear bumpers, mirror caps, wheel arches, side sills, roof rails, shark fin antenna, and more.

The front and rear axles both feature the Crown line’s crown logo. However, the tailgate bears the familiar Toyota logo.

Inside, the Toyota Crown Estate offers a 2-row, 5-seat interior configuration with a standard cargo capacity of 470 liters. Folding down the rear seats expands the cargo area to a length of 2 meters and a volume of 1,470 liters.

The interior is available in three color options: black, brown, and dark green-black. Accentuating these colors are copper-colored trim on the dashboard, door panels, center console, and air vent surrounds.

The Toyota Crown Estate comes with genuine leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster seamlessly integrated with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen. Other notable features include a digital rearview mirror, front and rear dashcams, connected navigation, automatic climate control, rear-seat center air vents and armrest, a panoramic sunroof, push-button start, an electronic gear selector, electronic parking brake, and auto hold.

Both versions are powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 190 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 236 Nm of torque between 4,300 and 4,500 rpm. The PHEV version delivers slightly lower figures, with 177 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 219 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm.

Moreover, both variants are equipped with a 5NM electric motor on the front axle, generating 182 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. The rear axle features a 4NM electric motor producing 54 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque. This setup results in an E-Four all-wheel-drive system for both versions.

Thanks to its 51 Ah lithium-ion battery, the Toyota Crown Estate PHEV can travel up to 89 kilometers on pure electric power. On the other hand, the Hybrid version utilizes a smaller 5 Ah battery.

Charging times for the PHEV model are 5.5 hours using a 200 V/16 A power source, 3.5 hours with 200 V/30 A, and 33 hours with 100 V/6 A. When using a DC fast charger, it takes approximately 38 minutes to charge the battery up to 80%.

The Toyota Crown Estate 2025 is offered in both hybrid and PHEV variants.

Regardless of the version, the Toyota Crown Estate is fitted with a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. It also benefits from an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system with three modes: Normal, Sport, and Rear Comfort.

In terms of safety, the vehicle is equipped with a collision avoidance system that detects pedestrians and cyclists, both during the day and at night. It also features a motorcycle detection system that utilizes a millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera.

In the Japanese market, the 2025 Toyota Crown Estate is priced from ¥6.35 million (approximately $47,300) for the Z Hybrid and ¥8.1 million (around $60,300) for the RS PHEV. Toyota plans to produce 1,500 units per month of this model in Japan at its Tsutsumi plant.
