Contrary to the overall market trend, there were some SUV models in the D-segment that experienced growth in sales during February 2025. Ford Everest and Hyundai Santa Fe are prime examples of this.

D-segment SUV Sales Table for February 2025 (units: vehicles)

Ford Everest: 760 units

The top spot in the D-segment SUV market for February 2025 went to the familiar Ford Everest. With sales of 760 units, this model experienced a remarkable 153.3% growth rate, the highest in the segment. Not only that, but its sales figures surpassed the combined sales of all other competitors in the D-segment SUV category.

Ford Everest

The Ford Everest is currently offered in Vietnam with six different trim levels, ranging in price from VND 1.099 billion to VND 1.545 billion. Despite being the most expensive option in its segment, the Everest remains a popular choice due to its attractive design and comprehensive convenience and safety features.

The Ford Everest comes with two diesel engine options, both 2.0L 4-cylinder units. The first is a single-turbo engine that produces 170 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a bi-turbo engine that generates 210 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and exclusively available on the higher-end trims.

Hyundai Santa Fe: 226 units

Similar to the segment leader, the Hyundai Santa Fe also experienced a boost in sales last month. With 226 units sold in February 2025, representing a 45.8% increase, the Hyundai model climbed to second place in the D-segment SUV category. However, compared to the Ford Everest, the Santa Fe’s sales figures are more modest.

Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe received a new generation update in 2024, and the current model is available in Vietnam with five trim levels, priced from VND 1.069 billion to VND 1.365 billion. For this price, customers get a spacious mid-size SUV with a unique design and rich features.

Additionally, the Hyundai Santa Fe offers two new gasoline engine options, having discontinued the old diesel engine. The first is a Smartstream 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that produces 194 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and is available with either front-wheel drive or HTRAC all-wheel drive.

The second engine is a Smartstream 2.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that generates 281 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque. This powerful engine is mated to a wet 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and the HTRAC all-wheel-drive system.

Mazda CX-8: 191 units

Ranking third in the D-segment SUV market for February was the Mazda CX-8, with sales of 191 units. This figure represents a 6.9% decrease compared to the previous month.

Mazda CX-8

The Mazda CX-8 received an upgraded version in November 2024, and its pricing remains among the most competitive in the segment, ranging from VND 969 million to VND 1.149 billion.

The CX-8’s exterior design resembles an enlarged version of the CX-5, which is not necessarily a bad thing as the CX-5 is well-loved by Vietnamese customers. Additionally, the CX-8 offers new features such as Chroma Brown Nappa leather seats, tire pressure sensors, and a driving support system for highways and congested roads.

Under the hood, the CX-8 is powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine that produces 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5 Luxury and 2.5 Premium trims feature front-wheel drive, while the 2.5 Signature AWD trim comes with all-wheel drive.

Toyota Fortuner: 161 units

Trailing behind the Mazda CX-8 in sales is the Toyota Fortuner. In February, Vietnamese customers purchased 161 units of the Fortuner, representing a 15.7% decrease.

Toyota Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner’s pricing ranges from VND 1.055 billion to VND 1.35 billion, which is comparable to its competitors. However, the model has not received a design update in a while, which has led to a gradual decline in its appeal.

Notable features of the Toyota Fortuner include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a choice of three engines: a 2.4L diesel, a 2.8L diesel, and a 2.7L gasoline engine. The respective output figures for these engines are 147 horsepower/400 Nm, 201 horsepower/500 Nm, and 164 horsepower/245 Nm. These engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or 4WD.

Kia Sorento: 65 units

February 2025 saw a growth in sales for the Kia Sorento, with 65 units sold, representing a 25% increase. Unfortunately, the model’s actual sales figures remain too modest to improve its ranking within the D-segment SUV category.

Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento is currently offered in Vietnam with nine trim levels, priced from VND 964 million to VND 1.499 billion. The model is also eligible for discounts ranging from VND 10 million to VND 110 million, depending on the trim level.

Not only does the Kia Sorento have the most trim levels in the D-segment SUV category, but it also offers a wide range of engine options. The first is a Smartstream 2.5 MPI gasoline engine that produces 177 horsepower and 232 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine that generates 198 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The third option is a hybrid powertrain with a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine producing 178 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque. This engine is combined with an electric motor that adds 60 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque, along with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Finally, there is a plug-in hybrid system that pairs the 1.6L gasoline engine with the same 6-speed automatic transmission. However, in this configuration, the electric motor delivers 90 horsepower and 304 Nm of torque.

Isuzu mu-X: 12 units

Once again, the Isuzu mu-X made it to the list of the 10 worst-selling vehicles in the market, with only 12 units sold in February 2025, representing a 53.8% decrease. This model had the highest sales decline rate in the D-segment SUV category.

Isuzu mu-X

The Isuzu mu-X has a competitive pricing range of VND 911 million to VND 1.25 billion, but it fails to attract customers due to its unappealing design and features. Additionally, this mid-size SUV has not received an update in a while.

The Isuzu mu-X is powered by a 1.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 150 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. In the highest trim level, this engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The lower trim levels feature rear-wheel drive.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: 9 units

Replacing the Isuzu mu-X at the bottom of the D-segment SUV sales chart is the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. In February, only 9 units of this model were sold, representing a 47% decrease.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

In recent months, Mitsubishi has been discontinuing promotional programs for the Pajero Sport, which could indicate that an upgraded version is on the way.

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is available in Vietnam with two trim levels, priced from VND 1.13 billion to VND 1.365 billion. This pricing is not particularly competitive, and the model’s design and features lag behind those of its rivals, resulting in its consistent low ranking in the segment.

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine that produces 178 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. It offers two types of drivetrains: one-wheel drive and two-wheel drive, the latter featuring a rear differential lock.
