According to Motor1, Toyota will discontinue sales of the Corolla E160 in Japan from the end of October this year. Compared to the E170 model, which is popular in many international markets, the Corolla Axio (sedan variant) and Corolla Fielder (wagon variant) are smaller in size and more affordable, with a starting price of under $11,000.

The Corolla Axio, with its manual transmission and front-wheel-drive option, is a common choice for driving schools in Japan. It is currently priced at approximately 1.64 million yen, which is around $10,800. The all-wheel-drive variant with a CVT transmission costs slightly more, at 1.91 million yen or $12,600.

The Toyota Corolla Fielder, the wagon variant of the Corolla E160 in Japan, is slightly more expensive than the sedan, starting at 1.786 million yen or roughly $11,770.

The Toyota Corolla E160 variants were introduced in the Japanese market in 2012 and quickly gained a steady customer base. While Toyota has not provided a reason for discontinuing the E160’s production in Japan, they acknowledge that this line still has a loyal customer following. They encourage those customers to check the inventory at their local dealerships.

The Toyota Corolla Axio and Toyota Corolla Fielder received updates in 2015, 2017, and 2022, but their exterior design remained largely unchanged. Both vehicles are built on the Toyota B platform, similar to the older Vitz/Yaris duo.

Customers have the option of choosing between pure gasoline or self-charging hybrid engines for both the Toyota Corolla Axio and the Toyota Corolla Fielder.

Outside of Japan, the Toyota Corolla E160 is also sold in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Macau, New Zealand, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
