In October 2023, Honda officially unveiled its new concept car, the Prelude. Over a year later, the interior of the vehicle was revealed at a special Formula 1-themed event called the “Red Bull Showrun x Powered by Honda” in Tokyo, Japan. At this event, the Honda Prelude served as a parade car.

Expected to hit the market this year, the Honda Prelude is positioned as a sportier, two-door coupe alternative to the Civic. From the physical images at the event in Japan, it’s clear that the production model stays true to the concept design.
The new Honda Prelude features sharp headlights with sleek L-shaped LED daytime running lights. Additionally, a horizontal light bar spans the width of the car, and the front bumper incorporates a central air intake with a black honeycomb mesh pattern.
The front end of the Honda Prelude evokes a resemblance to Toyota’s design language.
Moving to the sides, you’ll find sleek side mirrors, hidden door handles, and sporty multi-spoke alloy wheels. As a coupe, the Honda Prelude boasts a sloping roofline that seamlessly flows towards the rear end.

If the front end resembles Toyota, the rear end will remind you of Porsche. Here, you’ll find full-width LED taillights, a rear spoiler, a black rear bumper, and a sporty rear diffuser.
The rear design of the Honda Prelude draws comparisons to Porsche.
Inside, the Honda Prelude offers a two-row, five-seat configuration. The rear seats are rather cramped and can be folded down to increase luggage space.

The interior design of the Honda Prelude shares similarities with the Civic. This is evident in features such as the digital instrument cluster, the floating infotainment screen, and the arrangement of the air conditioning controls. In front of the driver is a digital instrument panel similar to the one found in the Honda Civic Type R, but with a more modern and streamlined appearance. The central control cluster is also raised slightly higher compared to the Civic.

In the center console, Honda has replaced the traditional gear lever with buttons. Additionally, there’s an S+ Shift button that simulates both the audio effect and torque distribution to mimic the feel of shifting gears. This car has a total of eight virtual gears, with a maximum engine speed of 6,000 rpm. Below the S+ Shift button is a toggle that allows the driver to select between different driving modes: Comfort, Sport, GT, and Individual.

Another unique feature of the Honda Prelude is that the driver and passenger seats are not identical. Honda explains that the driver’s seat is designed for better support and lateral hold during cornering. In contrast, the passenger seat is designed for comfort, with softer lines and thicker cushioning.

Honda has also paid attention to the ingress and egress experience by using soft materials for the door armrests and designing the doors to prevent foot scuffing when entering or exiting the vehicle.
In the prototype showcased at the event in Japan, the interior of the Honda Prelude featured a white and blue color scheme. The front seats were upholstered in a combination of leather and houndstooth fabric, evoking a sense of nostalgia with its classic pattern. In contrast, the rear seats were finished in all black, likely to enhance practicality as they are less frequently used.
Specific technical specifications of the Honda Prelude have not yet been released. However, it is known that the car is based on an upgraded version of the platform used for the Honda Civic. Honda has shortened the wheelbase and increased the rigidity of the chassis while reducing the overall weight. The steering and suspension systems have also been fine-tuned to suit the character of a GT-style coupe.
The Honda Prelude shares its chassis with the Civic, but with modifications for a sportier driving experience.
The Honda Prelude will feature the same double-wishbone front suspension and adaptive dampers as the Civic Type R. Additionally, the chassis is approximately 90 kg lighter than the Civic’s.

In terms of powertrain, the Honda Prelude will be equipped with a self-charging hybrid system, featuring an all-new 2.0L four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with two electric motors. This system delivers power to the front wheels and simulates gear shifting through software.
The Honda Prelude is set to be sold in various markets worldwide, including Japan, Europe, and North America.
