The 46th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2025) concluded with a record-breaking 77,379 car bookings over its 12-day run.

This figure surpasses last year’s exhibition by 44.8%, and even outshines the average monthly sales across the entire Thai market (approximately 48,000 cars/month). The final day alone witnessed an impressive 14,560 bookings, a testament to the event’s popularity.

Notably, over 65% of the purchased vehicles belonged to the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) group, indicating a distinct shift in Thai consumer preferences towards electric and hybrid cars. BYD took the lead with 9,819 orders, followed by Toyota (9,615) and Honda (5,948). Even ultra-luxury brands like Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and Aston Martin received orders.

Amidst a significant downturn in the Thai automotive market last year (with only 572,675 cars sold), BIMS 2025 demonstrated that exhibitions can not only showcase products but also serve as a catalyst for consumer spending, stimulating demand and restoring faith in the market.

What Can Vietnam Learn from BIMS?

The Vietnam Motor Show (VMS 2024), the country’s largest automotive event, witnessed growth in scale and visitor numbers. However, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), bookings stood at just over 2,000 cars after five days, mostly from Japanese and Korean brands.

This disparity reflects not only the difference in purchasing power between the two markets but also the untapped potential of exhibitions in Vietnam. While the Bangkok Motorshow is being aggressively commercialized as a strategic sales channel, VMS remains primarily focused on displays, experiences, and brand positioning.

Clearly, BIMS 2025 is not just a success for Thailand but also offers valuable insights for Vietnam’s automotive industry, especially as the domestic market strives to recover from several quarters of negative growth.
