Mazda has just unveiled its first all-electric SUV, the EZ-60, with images revealing a bold and sleek design. With dimensions of 4,850 x 1,935 x 1,620 mm and a wheelbase of 2,902 mm, the EZ-60 is larger than its rival, the Tesla Model Y. Its size is comparable to the Zeekr 7X, a promising Chinese electric SUV set to enter the global market.
The Mazda EZ-60, a mid-size SUV, is set to be unveiled next week with more details and images.
One notable feature of the EZ-60 is its weight, coming in at a hefty 2,590 kg, heavier than many versions of the large Ram 1500 pickup truck. The vehicle is based on the EPA1 modular platform, also used by the Changan Deepal S07, a Chinese car, which is not surprising given Changan’s close partnership with Mazda in the Chinese market.
The EZ-60’s design takes inspiration from the Arata concept car unveiled last year, showcasing a more assertive look than any current Mazda SUV while retaining the brand’s signature features.

The front of the EZ-60 features Mazda’s distinctive grille, paired with slim LED daytime running lights and an additional LED strip below. The Mazda logo is also LED-lit, adding a subtle accent. The main headlights are positioned lower, and the front bumper sports a bold X-shaped design.

Other exterior highlights include a long hood, black roof, hidden door handles, giant flower-shaped alloy wheels, and a rear mudguard trim with “Mazda” lettering. At the rear, the EZ-60 sports slim, L-shaped taillights above a raised “Mazda” badge.

To enhance aerodynamic performance, the EZ-60 incorporates airflow-optimizing details such as front air intakes and C-pillars with digital cameras or traditional side mirrors, depending on the version.

Mazda claims that this design reduces drag and improves battery cooling, resulting in enhanced efficiency and range. The EZ-60 is also offered in a unique glossy purple color, reminiscent of the Mazda Arata Concept.

While Mazda has not yet released images of the EZ-60’s interior, spy shots suggest a super-wide dashboard screen incorporating a central touchscreen and a passenger entertainment screen.
Details about the EZ-60’s powertrain for the Chinese market remain scarce, but it will be available in both pure electric and hybrid versions. The hybrid model will feature a naturally aspirated 1.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine that solely functions as a generator for the 31.7 kWh battery, powering a 255 hp motor on the rear axle.

Mazda has not disclosed the all-electric range of the EZ-60 hybrid, but its sibling, the Mazda EZ-6, can travel up to 160 km without using the gasoline engine. With the engine generating power for the battery, the EZ-6 achieves a combined range of approximately 1,300 km.
Mazda has been successful with its gasoline-powered cars, even setting sales records in the US last year. However, compared to its competitors, Mazda is a late entrant into the electric vehicle market. Their previous attempt with the MX-30 fell short in the US due to its high price and limited range.
With the EZ-60, Mazda is poised to make a strategic move into the global electric vehicle market. Outside of China, including Europe, this mid-size SUV will be known as the CX-6e. The global unveiling of the EZ-60 is scheduled for the Shanghai Auto Show 2025, opening on April 23.
