After Tet, the Vietnamese auto market witnessed a series of promotions and huge discounts from car manufacturers. Most of the models on sale were cars produced in 2024 or earlier.
Thanks to promotions of up to hundreds of millions of VND at this time, Vietnamese customers are at one of the easiest times to buy a car of the year.
Many promotions, some cars discounted by up to hundreds of millions
In early March, Hyundai announced discounts of up to 75 million VND for a batch of cars with 2024 VINs. The group of vehicles eligible for the promotion includes the Hyundai Grand i10 (sedan 1.2 MT Standard version), Hyundai Accent (1.5 MT, 1.5 AT, 1.5 AT Special, 1.5 AT High-class), Hyundai Elantra (1.6 AT Standard), Hyundai Custin (2.5T High-class), Hyundai Stargazer X (1.5 AT, 1.5 AT, Standard, 1.5 AT High-class) along with Hyundai Santa Fe in the Prestige, Turbo Calligraphy, and Exclusive versions.

Honda also launched promotions for cars with 2024 VINs, including the Honda CR-V G and L versions, Honda City, Honda Civic, Honda HR-V, Honda BR-V, and Honda Accord.
Among them, customers who bought the Honda Accord were given a cash gift of 250 million VND, while the other models received promotions in the form of support for up to 100% of the registration fee, plus one-year physical insurance depending on the model and version.
All versions of the Mitsubishi Attrage produced in 2024 are entitled to a maximum discount of 100% of the registration fee, plus a fuel voucher and a shark fin antenna. The total value of the incentives ranges from 43 to 48.5 million VND depending on the version.
The Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 VIN is still available in the domestically assembled MT and AT versions. These versions of the small MPV are promoted with a 50% registration fee discount, a fuel voucher, and a rearview camera or one-year physical insurance with a total value of 45.5 to 60 million VND.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander is only promoted with a total value of 72 million VND in the 2.0 CVT version. The incentives include a 50% registration fee discount, a 10 million VND fuel voucher, and a 360-degree camera.

The last batch of Subaru Forester cars produced at the Thai factory is also being heavily promoted by the Japanese car company to “clear stock”.
Specifically, the Subaru Forester with 2024 VIN in the 2.0 i-S EyeSight, 2.0 i-L EyeSight, and 2.0 i-L versions is being discounted by 140-200 million VND, bringing the price of the C-segment SUV from 969 million to 1.199 billion VND down to only 829-999 million VND.
Should you buy a car now?
After a stagnant period due to the psychology of reluctance to buy a car before Tet, the car market is showing signs of recovery. However, this period also witnessed the transition between the group of cars with 2024 VINs and those produced in 2025.
Many companies are actively “clearing stock” of 2024 VIN cars with huge promotions. Buying old cars during the first quarter of each year is considered a solution to help customers save costs, but at the same time, it also raises concerns if there is a need to resell the car in the future.
