After seven years on the market, the Lexus ES – the Japanese brand’s mid-size luxury sedan, is preparing to enter its next generation.
Despite receiving updates in 2021 and 2024, the Lexus ES is becoming outdated amid intensifying competition in the luxury sedan segment.
As per plans, Lexus will officially unveil the 8th generation ES on April 23, 2025, at the Beijing Auto Show. Ahead of its debut, the company has released several videos, revealing glimpses of the car’s new design language and appearance.
From the teaser images, the 2025 Lexus ES seems to bear resemblance to the Lexus RZ electric SUV, particularly in its daytime running lights that resemble the Nike swoosh, and the full-width LED taillights, a current design trend.
The new Lexus ES also appears to have a sleeker roofline, adding a touch of sportiness while retaining the traditional sedan silhouette. The third brake light is positioned at the base of the rear window, indicating that Lexus has not adopted a fastback or liftback design like some of its competitors.
Lexus promises to further enhance the “signature quietness and ride comfort” that are hallmarks of the brand. The cabin is expected to feature improved sound insulation, and the suspension system is tuned for a smoother ride, catering to the preferences of customers in Asian markets, especially China, where rear-seat spaciousness and comfort are highly valued.
Although official specifications have not been disclosed, Lexus asserts that the new ES will incorporate “advanced electrification technology.” It is likely that the vehicle will offer a hybrid or even a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, as hinted by the charging port detail near the front wheel arch in the teaser images.
The 2025 Lexus ES is expected to go on sale first in China later this year, followed by other markets towards the end of 2025 or early 2026.
With its modern design, new electrification technology, and ambition to become a global flagship, the ES promises to remain one of Lexus’s crucial pillars in the luxury sedan segment.
