At its recent 2025 Annual General Meeting, TMT Motors revealed ambitious plans to invest in the construction of 30,000 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide. Wuling, the distributor of electric vehicles in Vietnam, shared that this charging station project will be carried out in two phases.

Phase one involves installing charging stations in major cities and along key transport routes. Phase two will expand to provinces, rural areas, and remote regions, aiming for nationwide coverage.

In an interview, Mr. Bui Van Huu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TMT Motors, stated that the company will commence pilot installations of charging stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City starting June this year. For 2025, TMT Motors targets the opening of approximately 200 charging stations in Vietnam. The remaining 28,800 electric vehicle charging stations are slated for completion by the end of 2029.

The charging stations funded by TMT Motors will offer a range of options, including fast and slow charging, and will integrate additional convenient services. Moreover, the stations will be open to all electric vehicle brands, not just limited to those distributed by TMT Motors, such as Wuling. Unfortunately, details regarding the charging station providers and specific technical specifications are not yet available.

Vietnam will soon have access to TMT Motors’ public electric vehicle charging network.

TMT Motors began distributing electric vehicles in Vietnam in 2023, starting with the compact Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Currently, they also offer the Wuling Bingo, priced attractively between 399 and 469 million VND.

Towards the end of 2024, TMT Motors announced plans to introduce three new electric vehicle models to the Vietnamese market: the Baojun E100, Yep, and Yep Plus. Similar to Wuling, these vehicles carry the Baojun brand, a product of the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture in China.

The investment in public charging stations will undoubtedly boost the appeal of the electric vehicle models distributed by TMT Motors in Vietnam. Currently, the electric vehicles sold by TMT Motors in Vietnam can only be charged at home, which presents a competitive disadvantage.

In Vietnam, VinFast stands alone as the sole provider of a public charging network. Other electric vehicle brands in the market, including BYD, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Haima, rely on home charging, showroom charging, or third-party stations with limited availability.
