According to Drive, citing sources from Creative Trend, Mazda is planning to discontinue two of its models: the Mazda2 hatchback and the Mazda CX-3. The production of these models is expected to come to an end later this year, marking over a decade of their presence in the market.

When Drive inquired about the future of Mazda2 and Mazda CX-3 in Australia, the Japanese automaker confirmed that the Mazda CX-3 will be launching a new generation in 2027 with a hybrid engine option. However, the response regarding the Mazda2 remains unclear.

Mazda has previously discontinued the Mazda CX-8 and Mazda6 in its home market before halting their production in Australia. Interestingly, another familiar model, the Mazda CX-5 equipped with a 2.5L turbo engine, is still available to Australian customers, while its sales have been discontinued in the Japanese market.

As per Drive, the Mazda2 and Mazda CX-3 sold in Australia are imported from Thailand. The automaker’s production base in the country has recently received an investment of over USD 147 million to transition to electrified models starting in 2027.

From this factory, Mazda’s new models – potentially including a direct replacement for the CX-3 – will be exported to Japan and other Southeast Asian countries.

In Vietnam, the Mazda2 and Mazda CX-3 are also sold as completely built-up imports from Thailand and have not achieved impressive sales performances.

Last year, Mazda2 sold 5,092 units in Vietnam, while the Mazda CX-3 sold 2,745 units in the same period. In the first two months of this year, Mazda CX-3 sales stood at 347 units, while Mazda2 sales reached 632 units.
