Mitsubishi Motors has recently released its financial results for the 2024 fiscal year and shared its product development roadmap as part of its “Challenge 2025” strategy.
The company aims to strengthen its brand by focusing on region-specific vehicles that embody the Mitsubishi identity. Notably, Mitsubishi plans to launch three all-new models in Southeast Asia in the coming period.
Introducing the “Xforce 7-Seater” – The Commercial Version of the DST Concept
In 2025, Mitsubishi is set to launch a 3-row SUV based on the DST Concept in Southeast Asia. According to information from dealers in Vietnam, the concept version of this vehicle will be introduced as early as June 2025. Previously, a dealer principal had revealed the possibility of Mitsubishi launching a new 7-seater SUV this year, likely the DST Concept, also known unofficially as the “Xforce 7-seater.”
DST Concept is a unibody SUV developed from the Mitsubishi Xforce platform but lengthened to accommodate a third row of seats, exclusively for Southeast Asian customers. The vehicle is expected to feature a mild hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5L gasoline engine with a CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, similar to the Xforce. However, it remains unclear whether Mitsubishi will adjust the technical specifications to accommodate the larger size and weight of the DST.
With the addition of this new SUV, along with the positive growth of the Xpander and Xforce, Mitsubishi aims to sell approximately 51,000 vehicles in 2025, a 16.1% increase from the previous year.
The Return of Grandis as an SUV, Plus a Brand New Electric SUV
Also, in 2025, Mitsubishi will introduce an all-new generation of its global kei car line and launch a new small SUV. Additionally, the company will collaborate with partners to develop the Mitsubishi Grandis next generation based on a shared platform from Renault.
The Grandis name was previously associated with the popular 7-seater MPV in Vietnam in the 2000s, and it will now make a comeback as an SUV. The vehicle is expected to be launched globally in July 2025, positioned between the Mitsubishi Xforce and Outlander, directly competing with B+ SUVs such as the Toyota Corolla Cross (approximately 4,460 mm in length).
The Next Generations of Mitsubishi Xpander and Pajero Sport
In 2026, Mitsubishi will introduce the next generations of the Xpander and Pajero Sport in Southeast Asia.
The new Xpander is highly anticipated and expected to be released within the next 1-2 years, marking a decade since the current model’s introduction in 2017. Mitsubishi’s best-selling MPV in Vietnam will undergo a comprehensive redesign, possibly influenced by the Xforce and DST Concept. It is also predicted to adopt a hybrid powertrain and offer a more spacious interior with larger overall dimensions.
The new Pajero Sport is believed to be in the final stages of development, with its design based on the 2023 Triton platform. Spy shots have revealed a familiar overall shape, but the front end has been refined to match the new Triton’s style. However, the rear end has sparked debates as it retains the taillight design and tailgate from the previous generation.
In terms of performance, the Pajero Sport will be equipped with a 2.4L gasoline engine and a 2.4L single or twin-turbo diesel engine, paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. It will offer a rear-wheel-drive or a Super Select-II four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case. The interior has also been upgraded with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Expanding the Global Portfolio: Electric Hatchback and Crossover
In addition to its core offerings in Southeast Asia, Mitsubishi also plans to develop a new hatchback and a new crossover on a global scale. At least two of these models will be fully electric through joint ventures. It is unclear whether these vehicles will be marketed in Vietnam, as the ASEAN region is currently positioned separately by the company.
