Despite impressive sales of over 104,000 units in just four months, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan is facing a worrying reality: it ranks last in quality among mid-size electric sedans in China.

According to data released by the China Automotive Quality Network – a platform under the management of the country’s Market Supervision Administration – the Xiaomi SU7 is the most complained-about car in the first quarter of 2025. With a total of 239 penalty points, the SU7 becomes the lowest-ranked model among 29 domestic electric sedan brands.

This ranking is based on user reports of technical faults, defects, and risks encountered during vehicle use. Each customer feedback incurs a specific number of penalty points, with more points indicating lower-quality vehicles.

Notably, the Xiaomi SU7’s penalty points are 56 higher than the segment average – a significant gap, especially as consumers increasingly prioritize quality and safety in electric vehicles.

In contrast, the GAC Hyptec GT tops the ranking with 149 penalty points, followed by the Voyah Passion with 152 points, and the Avatr 12 – a joint venture between Changan, Huawei, and CATL – with 153 points.

Other notable models in the list include the Zeekr 001 (185 points), Lotus Emeya (185 points), BYD Han (194 points), and Denza Z9 GT (214 points).

While the Xiaomi SU7’s sales performance is impressive, its last-place ranking in quality is a serious warning for the tech brand as it ventures into the automotive market. This is especially true given a recent severe accident involving the SU7, which raised questions about the vehicle’s safety.

In the highly competitive landscape of domestic electric car manufacturers, Xiaomi must swiftly improve its product quality to retain the trust of its customers.
