The Audi R8, upon its debut, was hailed as a super car that offered a comfortable and accessible everyday driving experience, setting it apart from the high-pressure performance of Ferrari and Lamborghini vehicles. This unique proposition led to a surge in sales, with waiting times for new R8s reaching up to a year and a half at one point.
The R8 was one of the first super cars to arrive in Vietnam back in 2007, when the concept of super cars was still novel to local enthusiasts. Today, there are almost 20 Audi R8s in the country across various generations, but the first-generation model remains a standout with its distinctive design and engineering.
Recently, a neon green Audi R8 changed hands in a discreet transaction, only coming to light after the fact through social media posts. The eye-catching neon green exterior is achieved through a vinyl wrap, and the car has been modified with a Regula body kit, giving it a more aggressive stance.
The new owner is a prominent businessman known for his involvement in recent high-profile super car, sports car, and classic car transactions. The car is now being offered for resale at a price of over 2 billion VND and will soon be transported to Hanoi.
The Regula body kit transforms the older-generation R8 with a more aggressive front end. The side vents feature a honeycomb mesh design instead of the standard three horizontal slats, and they are also larger to improve airflow. The headlights have been upgraded to the 2018 LED units, which are more distinctive and modern.
The front air intakes are larger, contributing to both the aggressive aesthetic and improved aerodynamics. Carbon fiber accents throughout the exterior add contrast to the white body and reduce weight. The super car sits on a new set of wheels from Oxigin, completing the performance-oriented look.
Under the hood, the Audi R8 is unchanged. It is powered by a 4.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 430 Nm of torque between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm. Mated to a 7-speed transmission, this setup enables the super car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 301 km/h. The exhaust system has been upgraded to an Akrapovic unit.
