Suzuki Fronx Excels in JNCAP Safety Tests, Achieving a 4-Star Rating
The Suzuki Fronx, a popular compact urban SUV in Vietnam for 2025, has recently added another feather to its cap. Aside from its youthful design and attractive features, it has now proven its safety capabilities, officially earning a 4-star rating in the updated 2024 testing standards of the Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP).
The Fronx performed admirably, achieving an overall average score of 84%, assessed across three main criteria: collision prevention (92%), collision protection structure (76%), and automatic emergency call system (100%).
Notably, JNCAP acknowledged the Fronx as “meeting the new standards well,” which include heightened requirements for intersection automatic emergency braking systems, pedestrian lower leg protection, and steering stability during obstacle avoidance.
However, the Fronx fell short in certain areas, including the effectiveness of its headlights for night driving, the level of protection for pedestrians’ heads during collisions, and pedestrian recognition in low-light conditions.
Despite these shortcomings, the Fronx remains among the highest-scoring vehicles in JNCAP’s 2025 safety ratings. Interestingly, its direct competitor, the Honda Elevate, tested just a month ago, attained a 5-star rating.
First introduced in the Indian market in January 2023, the Suzuki Fronx is now expanding its reach in Southeast Asia. It is scheduled to launch in Indonesia on May 28, 2025, where Suzuki has its main assembly plant. From there, it is likely that the version sold in Vietnam will be imported as a completely built unit.
This move paves the way for the Fronx’s entry into the Vietnamese market by the end of this year or early 2026, following the completion of local emission testing procedures.
In terms of dimensions, the Fronx measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,550 mm in height. Its exterior shares similarities with the Suzuki Grand Vitara, particularly in the front grille and headlight design. The front bumper is angular, and the fog lights are housed in triangular pockets, creating a striking accent.
The Fronx’s interior boasts a modern style, featuring a 9-inch central touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The steering wheel design is consistent with other Suzuki models like the XL7, Ertiga, and Swift.
In the Indian market, the Suzuki Fronx offers two petrol engine options. The first is a 1.0L BoosterJet turbocharged engine with mild hybrid technology, producing 99 horsepower and 148 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.Â
The second option is a 1.2L K-Series Dual Jet naturally aspirated engine, generating 89 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque, coupled with a 5-speed manual or AMT (AGS) automatic transmission.
