Honda Reaches a Historic Milestone: 500 Million Motorcycles Produced Globally

Honda, a renowned name in the automotive industry, has achieved an impressive feat by reaching a global cumulative production volume of 500 million motorcycles. This includes both motorcycle and scooter models, and it took the company 76 years to accomplish this milestone since the production of their first motorcycle, the Dream D-Type, in 1949.

Founded in 1948, Honda has consistently developed and delivered products and services that cater to the diverse needs of customers worldwide. Their core philosophy revolves around the belief that “technology should serve to make human life easier.”

Honda expanded its motorcycle production globally, starting with its first overseas plant in Belgium in 1963. Since then, they have relentlessly pursued a consistent philosophy: “Produce where there are customers.” This approach led to remarkable milestones, including producing 100 million motorcycles by 1997, 200 million by 2008, and 300 million by 2014.

In 2018, Honda achieved a new high by producing over 20 million motorcycles in a single year, and by 2019, the global cumulative production reached 400 million. Despite a temporary dip in production due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, demand quickly recovered, returning to pre-pandemic levels. Alongside internal combustion engine models, Honda marked 2024 as a significant year in its global expansion strategy for electric motorcycles, introducing a range of new electric models to diversify its portfolio.

Currently, Honda offers a diverse range of products, from commuter models to large-displacement motorcycles for recreational use, as well as electric vehicles. With a production capacity of over 20 million units annually, Honda operates 37 manufacturing plants across 23 countries and territories, serving customers through a network of more than 30,000 dealers worldwide.

Honda remains committed to strengthening its motorcycle business by offering attractive products and services through various approaches, realizing the “joy and freedom of mobility” for a broader range of customers. The company is also focused on building a highly efficient business structure and working towards carbon neutrality, including electrification.

Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., shared his thoughts: “For Honda, motorcycles are where our founder started, and they will always be at the core of our business. Throughout our journey, Honda has built trust with customers through a wide range of products and services, enabling us to achieve this global production milestone of 500 million motorcycles. We will continue to challenge ourselves to expand the joy of our customers worldwide.”

Honda Vietnam

As a strategic link in Honda’s global production network, Honda Vietnam (HVN) proudly contributed significantly to the historic milestone of 500 million motorcycles produced worldwide, with nearly 40 million units manufactured in Vietnam. This achievement is a testament to nearly 30 years of relentless efforts, innovation, and commitment to improving product quality, coupled with the support and trust of millions of Vietnamese customers.

Moving forward, HVN remains dedicated to the sustainable development strategy, a journey in which the entire Honda Vietnam team takes pride in directly contributing to the long-term goals and vision of the Vietnamese government and Honda globally. HVN will continuously expand and diversify its product portfolio, enhance technological innovations for internal combustion engine vehicles, and further develop environmentally friendly electric vehicle models. These efforts aim to meet the diverse needs of customers and demonstrate HVN’s strong commitment to carbon neutrality, building a green and sustainable future for the community and future generations.
