Unlike the situation a year ago, the prices of many scooter models in the Vietnamese market have remained stable. In fact, at the moment, Vietnamese customers can purchase some scooters at prices lower than the suggested retail price.
Vision remains stable, while SH Mode still has a significant price increase
Around June-July 2022, the on-road price of the Honda Vision in Ho Chi Minh City reached a peak of VND 60 million. At that time, while the actual selling price was significantly higher than the official suggested price, customers who agreed to pay still had to wait a long time to receive their vehicles.
A year later, the price of the Honda Vision in the market has shown significant signs of cooling down. Specifically, despite a recent increase in the suggested retail price by Honda Vietnam of VND 400,000-500,000 from the beginning of April, the current price difference for the Honda Vision at dealerships ranges from VND 100,000 to VND 1.5 million.

Currently, the Standard and Premium versions of the Honda Vision are offered at dealerships for VND 31.79 million and VND 33.69 million, respectively. For the Sports version, the actual selling price is VND 37.89 million, equivalent to a price difference of VND 800,000 compared to the official suggested price.
The Special version of the Honda Vision has an actual price of VND 36.29 million, which is a difference of VND 1.5 million compared to the suggested retail price of Honda Vietnam. Nevertheless, this price difference is still relatively reasonable compared to the same period last year.
Currently, the popular SH Mode scooter has a significant price difference at dealerships. The Sports version of the SH Mode is offered at VND 70.59 million by dealerships. Although this price is VND 900,000 lower than at the beginning of June, it is still VND 5.6 million higher than the suggested price of VND 64.99 million from Honda Vietnam.
The Premium and Special versions of the Honda SH Mode are currently priced at VND 64.79 million and VND 66.29 million, respectively, equivalent to a difference of VND 1.5-1.8 million compared to the suggested retail price. The Standard version of the SH Mode has a price difference of only VND 600,000 and is currently readily available in all three colors: green, red, and white.
Air Blade 160 cools down, Honda LEAD sees significant price drop
About three months ago, a shortage of the Honda Air Blade 160 at dealerships made it difficult for consumers to purchase this model. Some dealerships that had stock informed customers of a price difference of up to VND 10 million, making the Honda Air Blade 160 a “hot” name in the Vietnamese motorcycle market.
However, at the moment, the price of the Honda Air Blade has cooled down significantly for both the 160 cc engine variant and the versions equipped with the 125 cc engine.

Compared to the beginning of June, the price of the Honda Air Blade 160 has decreased by VND 500,000-800,000 and is now on par with the official suggested price. For the version with a smaller engine, dealerships are offering the Air Blade 125 at a price of VND 41.19-41.99 million, which is VND 1.6-2 million lower than the suggested price set by Honda Vietnam.
Similarly, the selling price of the Honda LEAD is also quite attractive, with a maximum discount of up to VND 2.5 million. Specifically, the Premium version of this model has a price difference of VND 2.5 million, as dealerships are offering it at only VND 39.99 million instead of the listed price of VND 42.49 million.
The Standard version of the Honda LEAD is sold at a price VND 300,000 lower than the suggested retail price, while the Special version is also VND 1.6 million lower.
Yamaha scooters are selling below suggested retail prices
Similar to the Honda LEAD, the Yamaha Grande, a scooter in the same segment, is also being sold at a price lower than the official suggested price.
Currently, the Standard version of the Yamaha Grande is offered at VND 45 million, which is VND 1.9 million lower than the suggested price of VND 46.9 million set by Yamaha Vietnam.
The Special and Limited versions of the Yamaha Grande are also offered by dealerships at a price VND 500,000 lower than the listed price. Specifically, the Special version of the Yamaha Grande is priced at VND 51 million, while the Limited version is priced at VND 52 million.
Meanwhile, all three versions of the Yamaha Janus are selling at prices VND 600,000 to VND 800,000 lower than the suggested prices. Currently, the actual price of the Yamaha Janus Standard version is VND 28.5 million, the Special version is VND 32 million, and the Limited version is VND 32.5 million at dealerships.
Increasing supply and decreasing demand
Most likely, the recent price movements of scooters in the Vietnamese market have been significantly influenced by the increase in supply, while there are signs of weakening demand.
According to the latest report from the General Statistics Office, in May, it is estimated that about 292,100 motorcycles were manufactured in Vietnam, equivalent to an increase of nearly 4% compared to the output of 281,300 units in the previous month. From the beginning of the year, the total domestic motorcycle output of Vietnam after five months is estimated at over 1.3 million units, equivalent to a decrease of 7.5% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the report of the Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (VAMM) shows that the total sales of the five members in the first quarter reached 634,688 units, a decrease of nearly 16% over the same period in 2022. In particular, in May, Honda Vietnam’s motorcycle sales reached 142,580 units, a decrease of 31.5% compared to the figure in April.
According to VAMM’s report, the total sales of the five members in the Vietnamese market in the first quarter of 2022 were 753,571 units, which decreased to 655,433 units in the following quarter.
