Fiat Tris: The Urban Delivery Solution with a Unique Three-Wheeler Design

The Fiat Tris is primarily designed to cater to the goods delivery needs of individuals and courier services within urban areas.

With its compact design and distinctive styling, the Tris is positioned as a smart mobility solution for congested cities.

Tris is offered in two variants: a pickup style and a flatbed version, providing users with flexibility in transporting various goods, from groceries and light construction materials to handicrafts and gifts.

Tris measures only 3.17 meters in length, shorter than the Wuling Mini EV, yet offers a generous cargo area of 2.25 square meters, with a maximum payload capacity of 540 kilograms. The vehicle’s total weight when fully loaded is 1,025 kilograms. Its three-wheel structure, wide rear axle, and long wheelbase contribute to its stability, even when fully loaded.

The Tris features LED lighting designed in a pixel style, along with three-point safety belts. Despite the absence of doors, ABS, or traction control, Fiat assures that the Tris prioritizes safety through its robust construction and low center of gravity.

The Tris’ cockpit is simplistically designed yet adequately equipped for daily operations. It includes a 5.7-inch digital instrument cluster, a USB-C charging port, a 12V socket, and lockable storage compartments. Fiat also offers upgrade options to cater to customers with higher requirements.

Powering the Fiat Tris is an electric motor paired with a 48V system, delivering a maximum output of 12 horsepower and 45 Nm of torque. While these figures are modest, the vehicle adequately meets intra-city delivery needs with a top speed of 45 km/h, comparable to European mini electric vehicles that do not require a driver’s license.

The Tris is equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack of 6.9 kWh capacity, offering a maximum range of 90 kilometers on a single charge. The integrated charger allows users to recharge via a standard household electrical outlet. Charging from 0 to 80% takes approximately 3.5 hours, while a full charge is achieved in 4 hours and 40 minutes, making it convenient for small-scale daily business operations.

According to Olivier Francois, Fiat’s brand director, the Tris has been specifically developed for the Middle Eastern and African markets, taking into account the practical transportation needs and financial accessibility for consumers in these regions. While there are no immediate plans for expansion, Fiat leaves open the possibility of introducing the Tris to Europe in the future, especially as consumers increasingly seek smart and sustainable mobility solutions.

Notably, the Tris shares its powertrain with the Fiat Topolino, an electric mini-car for Europeans aged 14 and above, which does not require a driver’s license due to its speed limitation of 45 km/h. This highlights Tris’ versatility as not just a cargo vehicle but also as a testament to Fiat’s ability to repurpose technology to serve diverse customer segments.
