According to Carscoops, Mitsubishi has halted car deliveries to its dealers in the US to navigate the ongoing trade tensions and the new tariff policies imposed by the Trump administration.

As all Mitsubishi vehicles sold in the US are imported, they are subject to a 25% tariff. While the company continues to export cars to North America, it has paused shipments to its 330 US dealers to avoid additional costs, at least for the time being.

Jeremy Barnes, Senior Director of Communications and Events at Mitsubishi North America, stated that imported Mitsubishi vehicles will remain at US ports until the government announces further developments regarding tariffs.

Speaking to Nikkei Asia, Barnes confirmed that Mitsubishi has sufficient inventory to meet US customer demand, despite the temporary halt in dealership deliveries.

Cox Automotive data indicates that Mitsubishi’s inventory at the beginning of April could meet US customer demand for 79 days, higher than the overall 70-day average for the US auto market.

The Japanese automaker is reportedly awaiting a potential shift in tariff policies before its inventory runs out. Mitsubishi has not announced any price adjustments for its vehicles in the US.

Prior to Mitsubishi, several other automakers had also suspended car imports into the US, including Aston Martin, Audi, Lotus, and Jaguar Land Rover. Nissan has stopped taking orders for the Infiniti QX50 and Infiniti QX55 produced in Mexico, while Volvo is reportedly discontinuing its S90 sedan model.

In the first quarter, Mitsubishi sold 31,637 vehicles to North American customers, an 11% increase compared to the same period last year.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander continues to be the brand’s top-seller in the region, with 11,992 units sold in the first quarter. Interestingly, the Mitsubishi Mirage, a discontinued model, was the second best-selling vehicle for Mitsubishi in the US, with sales of 7,301 units.
